My snake is squeeking!

I havn't heard him do this before but just a few minutes ago I got him out to handle and he kept squeezing, but it almost sounded like a wheeze?

I don't know why he was doing this but it seemed to be when I pulled him away from going somewhere, then when I put him back In his viv he was squeeking like crazy! But he shut up after a few seconds.

Do snakes make sounds? Or is something wrong? Help please!

Sounds like a respiratory infection to me. You should call a local herp vet and see.

Ive never had a snake with RI so this is where I get sketchy. First of all it can be caused by constantly wet substrate or moist surroundings. High humidity is something corns arent used to unlike other snakes.

It would probably be wise to switch to paper towels and not any loose substrate to reduce the dust the snake is sniffing in. Remember to not touch any other reptile before watching your hands as it may carry on.

Aside from that if no one else with more experience concerning this issue besides me answers you, Id get in touch with a vet or a local snake breeder for tips.

Sorry, it's all I know :(.

Wish there was more I could do, good luck with the poor thing.

Keep me (us) posted.

75 on the cool side and 85 on the warm side is a good balance. I'd up the temp on the cool side for sure.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to pick up a book on corn snake care. They all cover this topic. Here are two excellent books to look for.

Hi Stace..... When I read this it sounded like an RI, but without a scan over the little guy I can't say for sure.... Thats why you need a vet.....
I posted this a while back and can vouch for the effectiveness of this treatment...

If your vet is unsure as to how this is done he can contact my vet for info....
He's Ian Calvert..... You'll find him in the list of recommended vets on the UK board.... ON here.
I hope that helps...
Upping the temps will help Short term....

Without discounting the RI suggestion, was the snake striking at you when you heard the sound? Sometimes a baby hissing sounds a little squeeky..
If it is an RI, you really need to get to a vet as soon as possible.

Ok thankyou everyone for the advice and thanks for the vet info im going to leave him a couple more days with the temps up and see if he improves, if not Im going to take him to a vet.
Is the RI quite serious then? :(

RI can be serious. If that is what it is you will definitely want to seek professional help. Besides squeaky, look for wheezing, sneezing, mucus coming for mouth and nostrils, breathing through the mouth.

It may just be a squeaky snake. Often snakes that are fed a mouse only diet will develop squeaky joints. If you listen closely when the snake opens his mouth you will hear the jaw squeaking. You might try giving your snake a couple of hamsters. They are higher in fat and will often solve the squeaky problem. Another option would be to dip you mice in olive oil before feeding to your snake.

I could be wrong. I’m just saying…

Sorry love but if it is an RI you ain't got a couple of days to play with.....
Get the snake out and put it by your ear... If you can hear it breath...Like it has a blocked nose, go to the vet tomorrow... Take the phone number of my vet just in case you need it....

I just put him to my ear and there is no sneeze or wheezing just the odd sqeak now and again im going to try and get him to a vet after work some time tomorrow, and to wade about it being something to do with the joints I have heard squeaks and sort of hissing sounds coming from him while feeding.

I was joking with you Stacey. Like Mike said, if it is a RI, you need to go to a vet. Hold the snakes head next to your ear and see if you can hear it breathing.
