Aspen bedding would allow natural burrowing behaviour and make the snake feel much more comfortable. Maybe try a plant?

Nice hides though :)

Simple, but all the necessities are there, plus the log. True, the newspaper takes away from the visual appeal, but it's easy to clean and very inexpensive (I use newspaper also).

My only question is why is the thermometer up so high in the viv? Isn't it supposed to be touching the paper to get the most accurate reading? Other than that, I think you got a good viv there...

I would use something else as a substrate personally, give her something to burrow under...unless of course you're trying to teach it to read the paper  I'd recommend aspen. But otherwise it looks good :)

It look great. Don't change a thing......until you want to. Newspaper makes a fine substrate. I agree that you may want to lower the thermostate to the substrate to get a more useful reading.

thanks guys i will deffenitly get her aspen beding and lower the thermomiter it will make it harser to see the dropings but hey thats what weekly cleanings are for to get what u dont see yay for feeding days lol

ill take advice for sure :)

Actually aspen is better as it allows spot cleaning. All you have to do is pick out the soiled part. This means the whole tank needs a proper clean less often.

Haha! I have to agree with you Chris. These people probably didn't even look at the pic.

Its a good setup, and sure, aspen would make it look lovely and they snake would like it, but its fine they way it is :) I myself use newspaper =)

Some nice green plants would really add to the colour of the logs and hides:)

I agree that it is "better," in some ways.....but it is not in others, such as the potential for impaction and mites. It's really a matter of preference, but I don't know that I could agree that either is superior to the other.

Thanks.....it just got to me today. The spiteful arrogance of some people is making me irritable. This kid has gone to more effort to make his cornsnake a good habitat than a lot of people do. He even makes a post asking for advice to make it better. I just think he deserves constructive criticism if there is criticism to be given.

Chris

From my experience and others, Mites are generally not a problem in aspen, but much more common in wood chippings eg beech or coconutbark.

As for impaction, this is not an issue if fed in a different container.

But your right, its all down to personal preferance and I too use newspaper (only for boas). You will find that with an active snow, it will soon become dirty in newspaper LOL.

I hate that.....that is exactly why I switched to kraft paper for my boas. I hate seeing ink stains on white snakes. :twoguns:

Chris

Iv got it taken care off now as it is but every little thing helps :) i feed in a diff contaner so im not worred about impaction although i do look out for it even now

Its a nightmare with young pastel boas! lol
You can get printless newspaper for next to nothing... works wonders.

suggestion

I also prefer aspen but my suggestion is a little different.
Try a background on the tank.
It can be anywhere from an actual aquarium background to pictures printed off your computer.
It could help it look more natural, especially after adding aspen, and can also help make the tank "feel" a little more secure for your snake.

This is a 55 gallon tank I split to house two snakes.
The background is a typical tropical background for fish.

Nice setup there. I don't have a problem with newspaper, I used paper myself while I was out of work to save on the pennies lol...

I agree the tank probably needs a background picture.

The only other thing I would query is, how is the snake when she curls up in those hides? I only ask because they look rather bigger than she is, and snakes like to be touched on all sides when they hide - my Connor squishes in to the smallest space available to him, even when there're much bigger hiding places available to him. When it comes to corns bigger is not neccessarily better. ;)

If it's fine, then don't worry about it. I can't tell what size they are - I'm just asking in case you hadn't realised. Good tank you got there!

ya shes small compared to the hides but iv looked and looked for smaller ones with no luck those are the smallist they had.
i used to have much bigger ones but i downsized. In reguards to that what would u recamend
perhapps stuffing the hids with somthing or her happes wait untill i get the aspen bedding and let her berow in that would like to here your thoughts
