New corn! Opinions on morph and/or RI please?

Meet Kira! I got her 1 week ago from a ball python breeder who was letting go of her "extras" to get back to focusing on balls. Kira is 1 year old and 2 feet 10.9 inches. She has been fed live since the breeder had her (and has a few healing bite marks ), but took a F/T mouse with NO hesitation on Friday (other than to decide it was dead before eating it)!

The lady said she is an anery, so I'd like to know if ya'll agree. I don't know a thing about corn morphs; I just know I liked the look of her, and doing a search for anerys for sale, decided that it was a good deal. I'm not really going to be upset if she's not, since I'm not planning on breeding, just curious if that's what she really is.

Also, I suspect she may have the start of a RI, not surprising since she came from Craigslist. I usually expect something to be wrong with a critter from CL, so this is not an issue for me. Is there any recommendations on something I can do to help her get over it, or does a RI always need a vet visit? She opens her mouth slightly every so often (about every 5 minutes) and breathes out forcefully, almost like a short hiss barely a second long. She seems to only do it when I hold her and she's actively moving around. I hear no crackles, rattles, or whistling, and I see no mucus or bubbles when I open her mouth.

On with a few pictures!

Lovely anery! And if you ever plan on breeding, you might want to some day breed to something with bloodred (aka diffuse), just for giggles.

She is a very pretty anery, I love that her whole neck isn't yellow like mine! That's really unique :)

It could be the start of an RI, and no it does not always require a vet visit. I would increase her warm side to 90 and her cool side to 85 and see if it helps fight off the infection if she has one. I'm not sure about humidity, perhaps increase it? I've never had RI so I don't have experience, I just recall hearing that warmer temps help.

I've bumped up the temps in her cage, because I also saw somewhere that that can help. She does like hanging out in her "hot spot". I'll definitely get her to a vet if she worsens, but we'll see how this helps.

She does have a very cute face! There's a tiny bit of yellow in little side patches along the front half of her, and little spots right behind her jaw bone, so I expect she might yellow with age! I've seen adults like that though; I still like it. :)

I've heard from a couple people that it looks like an emory ratsnake/corn cross...something about rootbeer? Any thoughts?

I can see why some people would think hybrid. The saddles are rather "blobular" in a way that matches the emoryi ratsnake quite well.

You could buy a nebulizer for RI's.... Anyone with snakes should have one as a just in case measure...
Used in conjunction with F10 and antibiotics they can nip an RI in the bud before expensive vet treatment is needed...
In mild cases of RI or the first signs of RI F10 can be enough on it's own to stop the problem...

I couldn't find a US site for F10, but this is a link to the product....

F10 should also be in everyones snake room.. IMO....

I second this.
The Bean Farm sells F10 products. http://beanfarm.com/index.php?cPath=1199_1202

I agrewe with Walter and Jim, looks to be an emoryi "influence". Maybe a rootbeer. I don't think it is an anery based on what I can see of the iris coloration. It looks to be a light brown iris, can you post a closer pic of the eye? I could be wrong though and the pic would help.

Lord knows I am usually more wrong than right or at least that is what my wife keeps telling me.

Sure, when I get home from work, I'll see what I can do about getting a close-up of her eye. What colour should her eye be if she's anery versus rootbeer?

This is what an anery eye should look like. I guess my first thought on seeing her was a rat snake too, but susan had said anery. Either way she is still absolutely gorgeous and I still LOVE those yellow patches. She's awesome.

I just heard back, and apparently she's done the mouth gaping thing since she was a hatchling. I guess that's a good thing? Meaning it's probably not a RI, but it would've been nice to know about beforehand.

Also, the breeder that she bought it from is from Jeff Hermann, who is a local who seems like a good guy, at least according to everyone I've ever discussed snakes with down here! :D They all know him or know of him. I've sent him an email in hopes he has records of this girl or can at least say something a little more definitive. I mean, if he's never had or bred an emoryi, there's the answer to that question!

I'll still post an eye pic, as I'll be leaving work in about an hour, so I'll do that when I get home.

So we have the answer! Jeff replied back and said she is indeed a rootbeer! I'll still give you a couple more pictures though, because we all like pictures. :)

He also said that she is possibly het. albino (is that the same as amel?) and anery, which might explain why the seller said she was anery. Just misremembering the info.

Her eyes are dark brown, about the same colour as her saddles. You can also see the yellow behind her jaw.

A more overhead shot. This is a little closer to her actual colour than the first pic.

Thank you all for your inputs! I appreciate it!
