New Snakes

Why exactly am I calming down? who here can tell me it ISN'T stupid as hell to bring a SIX AND A HALF FOOT BOA into walmart? come on, use your brain..

I was 17 three years ago too, and man, I was never that stupid, I owned 9 foot snakes at that age, and look... I never did anything stupid!:dunce::dunce:

Wow Ryan! Just wow. So You hade a potential leathal snake at 17 yet you were one of my King Rat snake protestors? Listen I don't agree with what this person is doig but I also don't agree with the fact that you are having a friggin' temper tantrum like a 3 year old! I take many of my snakes on walks around te block am I am evil ugly bad person? BTW I actually go a rep on my last post on this thread.

a walk around the block is not very public. were talking home depot and wal mart. i have taken animals to pet stores. none of the chain stores. only ones i can trust and seem clean. but would you see yourself taking your king rat to walmart and just holding it while grabbing some groceries?

I said I don't agree with what the OP says. I just think Ryans little tantrum is uncalled for

Well, My age didn't come with the in experience that yours did, I protested the fact that you were a beginner, getting a snake meant for EXPERTS.. How can you tell me a 9 foot boa is going to be fatal? 6'2 215 lbs at 17 years of age, I highly doubt a boa constrictor would be a lethal snake in my case, and also I had the experience and knowledge to house and keep my snakes properly, I have had snakes for 6 years PRIOR to the snake getting to that size, you on the other hand, Jump in with both feet and hope for the best, and when given advice, wave it off because you think your just the smartest person ever... Aren't you ALREADY having problems with your king rat? Whens the last time you seen me come begging for help because I messed up like everyone said I would?? you can't even come close to lecturing me on any part of this hobby.

and to call it a temper tantrum? Far from it, just stating the obvious stupidity that must be involved with taking a sub adult boa constrictor into a place where probably hundreds of people with irrational fears of snakes could be shopping.

Ryan Ryan Ryan, this just further proves your ignorance. I had 5 years prior experience. And 3 years of reasearch for the king rat. I am haveing no problems. She is my favorite snake and a perfect pet. A 9 foot boa could kill you. Regardless of your size. A great man once said "Only those who will risk going too far will know how far one can go". I too keep my snakes properly. Racking system, locking lid cages. Ryan try the excercises I instructed in my first post let me help. All together now
Deep breath in, out, in, out, in, out. Good now go re-read your post. You were throwing a hissy fit. Making drama. Come on now don't be a drama llama!

do you have any idea how many people iv known that take their snakes to walmart? i can think of 3 that i know and iv heard of a many others. atleast im not one of those idiots that has a 15 foot burmese that i walk around with like alot of people iv seen throughout my life. if u dont have any nice to say shut the f*ck up and dont post anything at all

Hum, I know a few people who've done hard drugs. Maybe I should start doing them too! : D
And I'd love to see even one person, never mind "alot", tote around a 15 foot burm, lol. Andre the Giant, maybe?

Do not take your boa to shopping. It is 100% unnecessary, the snake doesn't get anything out of it and that should always be your number one concern as a pet owner.

If you want to show off your baby, do so in a positive, controlled way. Find your local herp group and get involved in reptile education. I know people who do schools, churches, pet expos, nature parks, and museums.
NOT Walmart.

How is it that one member can say an opinion, get crap for it...and then another is applauded?

I don't want to involve myself in any drama...but I do think snakemaster is looking for any little dig he can get a another member. Ohhh the egos in here!

To the OT- Leave the snake at home next time you go to Walmart. I doubt anything bad will happen, but why take the risk??

I am not looking to dig at peple but Ryan always has to go off. He never can say things simply he has to cry and whine. Annoying if you ask me. ;)

Having been one to get on David in the past, I honestly don't think this has anything to do with ego or trying to dig at another member. I think it has to do with the fact that somebody came on here saying what she was doing and asking for advice, and a member immediately went negative and called the OP stupid. It's unnecessary and uncalled for. If you were to say something in a positive criticism and the OP were to shoot back or mouth off, then I could see coming in with a negative attitude.

I've always seen this forum as a HELPFUL place and would hate to see every "I just bought a snake, help!" post immediately treated with disdain and resentment rather than positive, helpful criticism. Not everybody who impulse buys is an idiot, they're just uninformed. Trying to help is always better, if not harder, than calling somebody an idiot and walking away.

My history here is not the best but I consider myself a valued member of this forum. I think if you were to take the 100 most recognized members of this forum I would be up there. I am not gonna go back to my past. Ryan has issues. I am sorry if I offended anyone but Ryan has some kind of need to make a drama rama out of most everything. He is what 20 I am 15 yet he says that he is so much better than me and claims to be an "expert" and says he is perfect. Unfortuanatly Ryan is lying. Rich Z is mabye the only true "Expert" I know on this forum. I have a snake (Elaphe Carinata) that people claim is for "experts" which is in all aspects a false hood.

King Rat snakes get a bad rep because they are usually imported. An imported King Rat snake is one of the meanest most aweful snake to work with CB animal can be kept easily by an intermediate keeper. Which I consider my self.

Hahaha..so do you think that all recognition has came from good encounters?..LMFAO..huh?..Kinda like how everyone knows who Charles Manson is..LOL..hehe..nah..(Charlie didn't do anything wrong I think the guy is actually funny. But he is a d-bag at the same time.)
JKJK..man:grin01:

Anyway..I have read this forum and all I can say is that harmless little walks around the block is fine..when conditions are right.
BUT seriously Wal*Mart..??....C'mon now..that really is pretty Ignorant.
IGNORANT:
The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed.

Well they tried to educate you..and its up to you to listen. Now your are aware..and you have so been informed.;)

...and knowing is half the battle..

Ok, the holier than thou attitude is getting a little thick in this thread, just sayin.

But the taking the boa into wal mart, home depot, etc... that's just a case of where's the common sense. Seriously? Wal mart? Home Depot? Are you sure you're not a troll? It's bad enough I risk my own health walking into wal mart sometimes.

Potential problems for the snake, potential problems with other customers, and as somebody else stated there's always liability issues. I wonder how you even get past security, pretty sure wal mart doesn't allow pets except for service pets (Not sure you can pass off the snake as a 'seeing eye snake' :shrugs:). In fact, considering most wal marts these days have at least some groceries, it's probably a health violation as well.

And like someone else said, it takes just one phone call, one camera, one reporter, to make a story out of the "crazy person bringing their evil 30 foot snake of doom into wal mart putting 100's of people in mortal danger" (note this is a hyperbole...because that is how reports would make it sound) to give this hobby even more negative light.

That is a serious generalization you just made about teenagers. I am one? And I don't consider myself thick headed. And you are right her parents are liable.

But don't tell a 17 year old they can't possibly be competent enough to own a real snake when I, only 19, care for over 30 snakes.. well.
The toy comment was rude.

Why can't we give people, especially "young" people direction and advice without talking to them like they don't understand a word you say? She's not THAT much younger than you.

Let's be nice. And quit with the downtalking and sterotyping in this thread. Please?

that my post was made about the posts before the last two lol.. this is aparently a hot thread.

well, one reason why not to bring any reptiles and especially snakes to a store. One most Stores forbid it and will have you either evicted or arrested.
2. If the animal bites some one, will you be ready for the law suit to follow? From both the store and the victim?

Not going to flame any one but you gotta think for yourself and protect yourself as well and leave the stunts at home.

Zulu makes a point. I am 15 have over 25 snakes and can, afford and maintain them very well.

wooo.. chill on the language here.

But seriously, how the heck do you carry a 15 foot burm??
Seriously, I really want to know cause I own one myself and personally i can not carry a 130 pound snake like its nothing.. So can you please explain that to me?

Mom stopped giving me an allowance quite a while ago. I live in my own condo, which I pay the mortgage for, and I pay for all of my snakes needs. Enough with the youth bashing!
