I didn't offer information to show he was wrong. If I wanted to show he was wrong, I would have said something before he was banned that involved care of anacondas.

What I posted is the information I was given by friends that keep 'condas in this area. They keep them well, and keep them healthy. If I planned on getting a 'conda, I would do more research before doing so.

I don't know if he's a troll who was trying to get a rise or if he was a genuine poster, and neither did any of you.... His facts were a lot closer to the truth than yours were and yet you can claim him to be too far out and you nearly right... How the hell does this work....

I know he was a troll. I know he was a troll because he called everyone, including NERD, a bunch of morons that didn't know anything. Whether or not his information was right, he has NO RIGHT to call everyone a moron.

Doesn't matter if others were wrong. Doesn't matter if others didn't want to offer him advice. What matters is from that from the beginning, he was hurling insuilts. Not hidden, little sly insults...calling people morons, directly.

And wasn't this forum downright rude and condisending to him first well before he retaliated.....

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe the forum thought that a person with 2 years of cornsnake experience shouldn't be getting a 'conda without doing some research. Who cares? The forum didn't curse or call him names and neither did any of the members. Period.

Go back to the beginning of this thread and read it again... He said I have a GA and the forum rounded on him...

I did. He said he was getting one. Someone said they get big and mean, he called them a moron.

I would of reacted exactly the same way as the OP....

Well, if you would have resorted to cursing people out and calling them names because they disagreed with you...than you'd have been deservedly banned as well. What can I say?

He doesn't know any of you and now he thinks we have a site of opinionated google warriors that keep corns.....

Mike, I have a mixed feeling about your posts.
On the one hand I agree, I do see a pattern here when it comes to labeling new users as trolls if they say something controversial...
It is understandable and inevitable however, especially in long standing communities such as this who had it's share of trolls.

On the other hand, really, when a person tries to get into a new community, there's a certain conduct that is expected. Being condescending is not something which is tolerated in most communities that I know of- online or otherwise.

Some of the info he gave was true, and some of it was not(such as stating that an Anaconda should not have a water dish she can soak in).

His proffessionalism aside though, even if he was a renowned keeper- first be polite, civil and a good person. Knowledge is something which can continuously change... the character is less prone to changes.

If trolls are such a problem stop looking at forums... Every forum has them, just this forum gets it's knickers in a twist like they are here with a gun taking pot shots...
And if a new member comes here and is slated and labelled a troll in the first couple of posts, do you think they are going to hang around and try and fit in or kick off and say stuff the lot of you.....
It seems we have a culture on here of being the first clever dick to spot the troll and call them out so the gang can all go around back slapping and poking fun.....
I don't dislike trolls as they can be entertaining on those slow nights.... LOL
Sure I get fired up over some of their posts, especially if it's totally wrong or dangerous advice.... But I get madder when some of our reformed trolls say they are a fool for wanting a big snake (to play to the crowd) and others quote wrong information to counter the said troll and all their friends back them up without knowing if they are right or wrong....
DYK.... I know some very respected breeders that won't go near forums, because of that very attitude.... Shame really that we deny ourselves all that knowledge because we have google experts and keyboard warriors they can't be bothered to deal with...

Seriously, Mike, if someone joins the forum and steps right into it with arrogance and insults, instead of reading and finding out what the site is about, it's their OWN fault for being labled a troll.

Anybody with half a brain can read the rules and guidelines posted at the top of each forum, than read a couple of posts, and figure out what THIS forum is all about. And anyone that is too lazy to do that before replying, and instead jumps in both barrels with insults...doesn't deserve any respect, as far as I'm concerned, and I really couldn't possibly care less if they are a member or not.

Troll-spotting is fun for some people. So what. If trolling can be fun, and watching the trolls can be fun...why get so hung up about troll spotting? I have seen very, very few cases where a troll was called and turned out to not be a troll on this forum. I'm sure it happens occasionally, but not NEARLY as often as a troll being called a troll.

I have a problem with the gangland mentality around here at times, as well. But I tend not to get so heartbroken over the trolls that come in here guns blazing for a fight. If this was a kid that was seriously interested in learning or finding out, or discussing green anacondas, I am quite certain the "group mentality" would have been very different. But it wasn't. The kid was a troll...and arrogant troll...and he was called for it. Pity him if you want, but I'll save my pity for folks that actually deserve it.

Believe me, I understand where you're coming from. I've said the same things you are saying in past situations. You gotta pick your battles, and frankly, someone that curses, cusses and insults everyone and their brother with very little (if any) provocation doesn't deserve to be supported. Honestly, I saw NO provocation, other than calling into question his comprehension, before this kid flew off the handle with insults. If people telling you their opinion about GA's is gonna be reason enough for someone to fly off and call names...I don't want him here, anyhow...

If he had responded to those first question with a link that showed he was right, instead of a slew of insults...you would have a completely different outcome. Those first questions weren't rude. The first questions weren't inciting. The first questions asked regarding a GA in this topic were very legitimate questions, asked in a polite manner. His response to them was that we are all morons that don't know anything. Forget him. I'll save my sympathy for the Devil that deserves it, not the one that digs his own grave from word one...

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy into the whole idea of catering to newbies, and helping them get into the forum the right way. If people want to come to this forum and act superior and insulting...get rid of them. There are enough forums around. If people can't respect this forum and it's members on the FORUM'S terms, not their own...they can pound sand. We don't need to cater to every 16 or 17 year old kid that thinks he knows more than everyone else. Don't we have enough of those around here already? Ask David...it doesn't matter how right you are...if you're a jerk about it nobody is gonna listen to you...and NOBODY is gonna respect you for benig a douche...

BTW...post #20 is the first post he made where he called somenoe an "idiot". Not a bunch of %$^$%$# type of letters, but straight up said "You're an idiot".

Up until this point *most* responses were very friendly towards him, only [casually asking if he knew what he was getting in to. And tha was his reply..."You're and idiot".

Nope...he doesn't deserve any sympathy in my point of view. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, until he started calling people idiots and morons. Everyone gets a chance, but once you pull the insult card...beat it. That's my opinion...

Between you and me, Mike(and anyone else that doesn't have me on ignore by now), I'm right there with you on the "pack mentality" that happens on this site a lot. I have absolutely made the same sort of posts that you are making here. I have gone WAY out of my way to try and defend people that get "attacked" on this forum. Heck, you and I have stood side-by-side in this, going as far back as George.

My point is that some people deserve to be defended, and some people don't. A person that comes in with genuine curiosity and gets attacked deserves to be defended. A person that responds immediately with insults does not. A person that thinks they are right and can prove it, but still gets attacked, deserves to be defended. A person that thinks they know everything, and posts insults instead of sources...doesn't.

Yes...there is often a pack mentality, and often it can be infuriating to see people pounced on for no reason. I just believe that this situation is not one of them.

And you're absolutely right that we can go around and around, and it doesn't change anything. If this guy comes back with a new and improved attitude, I think my reputation will speak for itself that I will be among the first to give him his second chance. Even a third and a fourth(right David? ). But as far as I am concerned...he needs to prove himself...not the other way around...
