• Hello!

Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.

Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....

Please be certain that the location field is correctly filled out when you register. All registrations that appear to be bogus will be rejected. Which means that if your location field does NOT match the actual location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected.

Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

Newbie with question about the forum please.

Can anyone tell me where the edit function is so that if needed i can add/alter to my posts.

Kindest regards

Ah - you only get that if you become a "Contributing" member, which costs $25 a year. Basically the forum is hosted and run by a private individual (Rich Z) who needs some help with the costs. Hopefully it's a nominal cost for a source of such good info!

You are joking right?.

Well, there are other benefits. You get to post for sale ads, you get access to the Insiders section, you get to have a banner in your signature, you get a larger avatar. Everyone who had the shiny silver emblem and their name in dark red is a contributor.

I don't know! 21,358 members. I'll see if I can find out. When you look at the bottom of the home page, you can see who has been on-line in the last 24 hours. You can get a rough idea of what percentage of us are contributors.

Well worth the money and it goes to help support the website! Other places let you edit for free....but then you have more obnoxious problems there.

There might be about 96. I clicked the button on the first page View Forum Leaders (never been there before!! Interesting!!) and counted everyone who has access to the Insiders Club, which is all contributors and admin. That doesn't seem like very many, does it?

I can see the point in having to pay for being able to advertise etc, but to edit your posts:confused:, being able to edit your posts keeps the forum tidy and reduces duplication, come on mods change this please.

Well it's up to the site owner not the Mods and as it's been accepted practice for years, I'm not sure one dissenting voice (or even many) will change things. It's been debated before.

I haven't noticed a problem with the forum being untidy or duplications happening, so lack of an Edit feature apparently for the vast majority of members, just isn't causing that kind of issue. If it was, I'm sure the Mods would've taken it up with Rich direct long ago.

Its not a dissenting voice, i think the forum is great. I am just suggesting something that i think could be improved. i would be interested in the logic behind all the years of not changing the inability to edit posts.

Because the lack of an Edit facility isn't causing any problems?

I'm sure it's an inconvenience occasionally, but I really don't see any evidence of it causing the issues you described in your previous post - have you spotted anything that you could attribute to it?

It pays the site owners bills. Most of the people first pay for their shiney for two reasons...to edit and to sell stuff. I don't usually have anything for sale, so I pay for the shiney for the edit function. (and I need a new siggie, Hmmm)
Not being able to edit is very annoying to me. So I am very quick to renew my membership to get that privilege back.
And because I do, I put money in Rich's pocket.
That is the logic!

If all you say is true why do you get to edit if you pay then.

It isn't a major issue for the owner to keep the ""forum tidy ". But some members like to edit so it a one feature to draw member to become contributors, just like you like to edit, so if you hang around long enough you might consider it.

I had my shiny so I could edit....I hate making typos and stuff and sometimes I think of something I should have added to my post after I have already posted it....but I haven't renewed this year, yet.

I find the meager $25 annual fee more than reasonable to be able to edit, and I think that the owner knows that the ability to do so is important to many of us, therefore, the decision to tie it to an annual fee is a wise move on his part. I don't sell, here, but I DO want to support this site, because it's my absolute favorite snake-related place to hang. So it's a win-win situation, imho. The owner is able to keep the site up & running, and not only can I edit, but there is that shiny under my name to show that I care enough about this place to contribute to its upkeep.

I usually check my posts pretty carefully before posting, so only occasionally use the edit feature. (But it IS handy when I need it). And I only occasionally use the advertising ability here. (But that is ALSO handy when I need it).

The PRIMARY reason I am a contributor is because I feel that the site is valuable to a lot of people, because I enjoy spending time here, AND because I feel I should shoulder a small part of the costs of something I enjoy.

Why should the owner pay all of the costs for something I enjoy? If this was something the government ran, using my taxes, then I would feel differently. But it is an individual providing a free service, just asking those who can afford to do so to kick in a little to help. And he is trying to provide a few small, extra, incentives to encourage people to do so. Yet everything except those incentives are free if that is your choice. I haven't seen any deleterious effects from this arrangement, so it seems very reasonable to me.

I have been a member of some forums where you are allowed only a very limited number of uploads. I was amazed to find that this site didn't have a limit. Every time I post a picture, I am thankful that Rich has the means to support that. This site would be nothing without photos.

I pay because I can afford it these days and I like to support Rich - he doesn't have bottomless pockets and this forum is an invaluable resource.

Edit isn't that important to me personally. I do use it, but before I "contributed" I don't remember the lack of it being an issue. I certainly didn't start paying in order to get it.
