North Carolina licensing

Ok so as I was looking on line at different breeders I seen how all of them posted about checking the licensing requirements for your state. So I came here and seen a post from 2005 I believe about needing a collection license to own one, is this still relevant ?
Because I came back from petsmart a while ago and they had kingsnakes, cornsnakes and a milksnake in there for sale.. and if you need to be licensed before hand I wonder how many people buy them without knowing about it.

You don't need a license to purchase a pet corn snake in North Carolina. Candler is less than a half hour from me. There are a handful of MUCH better places to buy a corn snake from than Petsmart around here! Are you looking for a particular mutation? I can certainly ask around, and might just have something.

Georgia is the state where you can't own any native reptiles, which includes cornsnakes. New jersey doesn't allow any of the "normal" cornsnake morphs.

I highly recommend visiting Chip, and picking out a snake. Unless you're VERY attached to a specific morph, I'd just let him show you all the friendliest candidates! And a nice adult can be WAY more fun than a baby.

Thank you both, as far as morphs go I am pretty open minded and not really set on any particular one, but sorta really want a male snake, and definately looking at adults, I like to snoop inside of the windows at petsmart and petco as I walk by to pick up other things lol and seen they had a few in there lol.

I am still doing research and waiting for my book from Kathy Love to arrive, then I can start purchasing the things needed for set up, as far as purchasing the actual animal it will be a few months yet, my daughter wants me to come to Virginia to see her so really don't feel comfortable buying an animal then leaving for several days etc with no one to watch over it, my husband is usually away and it will take me a while to show him everything I am learning about the care of one along with getting him to do more then look down into my frog tank and shake his head lol.

Fortunately, cornsnakes are much easier than frogs! And with an adult, you are FINE to leave the snake for one or even two weeks, as long as he has a supply of water that won't run out.

^^^^^^^^True dat!!! My favorite corn is a huge 2.5 year old Normal that is over 800g and 5' long. He was a rescue. He is so funny and loves to be held, he "flirts" with me when I walk by his tank, following me back and forth and flicking his tongue at me. If I didn't know better I would think he was the guy who stood on the corner near an apartment I had back in downtown St. Louis 20 years ago!

Chip is awesome, and he will help you with everything you need and help pick the right one. I don't think you are near the west end of NC, my parents live there, but I am jealous that you have the ability to see Chip's collection!

And if anybody tells my other kids I said I have a favorite I will deny, deny, deny. And they can't read, so no proof!

I live up in the Western North Carolina mountain area about 20 min to the north of Asheville.
My home is pretty much in the middle of nowhereville, small community, to put it mildly the pet stores in this area other then Petsmart/petco are geared toward dogs/cats/birds/fish. I called several trying to find a local, better source for feeder insects for my frog and one girl at a pet store didn't even know what a feeder insect was.. she was like " oh something you feed to mice??... I was like nooo...something I will feed live to my frog.. and lordy asking for dubia roaches only got me dead silence..

So you live by my favorite place for mountain biking! I used to go to Tsali and Pisgah at least twice a year. I love it there. If I couldn't live in Florida, that would be my second choice.

Yeah this is a rather beautiful area, far far different then Washington, D.C where I moved from after getting tired of having my husband being mugged as he got off the public transit system and not being able to do anything about it, the area was horrid there, muggings, rapes ( I lived in fear daily about one of my girls being taken ) even had one lady burned alive in the apt building across from us. This area is ever so much better, crime still happens but no where near on that level, and here I have taken steps to learn and can at least have a better chance to protect my self from that sort of thing. And its nice having an honest police officer living across the street too lol.

I like living in the middle of nowhere. It's very pretty here, except for the rednecks and alcoholics. Pretty much the same thing.
I'm raising up some weird little snows and doing test breed on my okeetee phase. Nice to know there are more NC keepers though, sometimes I lose hope for the people around here.

yeah I honestly didn't think there would be anyone else on this side of the state, Raleigh area sure but not in hippie central lol.. no offense but yea..tye dyes, vegan restaurants every other block, street corner drummers.. love the area but some of the people really are a bit on the strange side

So I talked to my husband and he wants a bright color morph, so if someone can point me in the right direction to look at some I would appreciate it as I am a complete noob.. it will still be a while though, I only have the tank and top still have to get the rest

yeah I sorta fit right in to some of it, 43yr old white female with 2-3ft long dreadlocks lol, I don't get many strange looks when I am downtown but it took a while where I live for people to stop staring, the kids still do but they are cute. Its the weirdos that want to come up and touch my hair that freak me out.

It will take you hours to look at all these! Good luck choosing, and you are wise to take your time.

lol yeah I keep saying OMG... every time I look at one of the link on ians vivarium site.. how in the world am I gonna choose

First thing that came to my mind when you said bright colored is a reverse okeetee. I don't think those are on Ian's, but you can do a google image search on "reverse okeetee" and get lots of pics of them.

Here's one example from the other link you were given, which is Don Souderberg's South Mountain Reptiles:

ohh that one is really nice, I was looking at his site earlier and noticed a really pretty Creamsicle one in his surplus page. But it is highly unlikely to still be there a few months from now when I am ready to buy.
