Nubee Non-Contact Infrared Digital Thermometer $12 shipped (Amazon Prime)

Thanks! This was the last thing I was missing for my snake that arrives on Thursday, with two day shipping this should arrive then too!

Just FYI, reviews are spotty, so I would test it against another thermometer and make sure you got one that's accurate. If you get one that is "honest," $12 is a steal.

I've had one for awhile now. Paid the $17 for it.

It's close enough for spot checking temps......

I'd be inclined to trust the IR more than the probe.

My take on it is the IR gun is giving me the surface temp of the actual object and the thermometers with probes are giving me the temp of the air around the probe.
Just to show what I mean I put the probe in water the took a reading with the IR gun.
(yes I was washing dishes lol ) Both readings were identical since now they were reading the same thing. As you can see the gun is not on "hold". It is a live reading as is the probe.

SOooo I've gotten so used to verifying temps with this IR gun that it just shot me in the foot !!! For some reason it is reading 12 degrees hotter now and I was adjusting my racks accordingly. I'll verify with a 3rd thermometer for now on when their is a discrepancy !
As you can see in my post above, the gun was spot on prior to my recent use of it. Time to upgrade......

:flames: IRgun

That stinks. The $50 yellow model from Reptile Basics is solid as Sears if you are in the market.

Thanks, I'll check it out !

Another "I'm an idiot" moment and its going to cost me......... :(

Doh. I hate those moments!

And not to steal Damon's thunder, but these still do a decent job but are better checked with the IFR guns and they are cheap. I always have several extras on hand and never hurts to have a second opinion.

I agree but don't trust one over the other and get a THIRD opinion ! :)

For 50 bucks you can get one that will be rock solid. If you can't trust the $12 ones to hold temp and have to check them against another source, not sure it's such a bargain. If you got one that was dead on out of the box and stayed that way, it would be the buy of the century but I don't think you can trust cheap electronics to do that reliably. That proverb about "he who buys quality cries once" comes to mind.
