Oh my, some people annoy me!

3-3-3
3 years old AND 3 feet long (not 30 inches) and 300 grams is the minimum size an average female cornsnake might be bred at.

Whoops... Yes I ment to type feet not inches. Thank you!

The snake would be kept at her house not his, and she said it was the first time she brought it up because she was excited about the shed. Either which way, I'm annoyed with how people can think an animal is evil because they are scared, or even unsure of the animal. I think it was silly to crush a dream that wouldn't even happen until she's old enough to work (her idea), and something that you would never have to be around.
When my kids are excited about something I have no clue about "sky landers" lets say... I'm happy for them and try to get excited for them. Not put them down by saying something like "when I was a kid there was no video games, we had to play outside". Hahaha though that'd be fun!!!
My point is what everyone else has said basically... Snakes are animals, not evil or intended to be evil. And it annoys and saddens me to know that there are so many out there that think they are. Or cats, spiders, what ever creator.
Can't we all just get along ;)

Peoples use of religion to insight fear of living things never ceases to amaze me. We have church groups in this region who handle snakes to prove their belief in God trumps the devil. If someone gets bit they say they were not faithful enough. My brother kills every living thing that finds its way to his property and wonders why he can't grow anything in his soil. I try to never use pesticides and be as organic as I can on my property and it is full of snakes, bugs, toads, birds and every other living thing. I also had a huge crop of volunteer tomatoes, over 100 plants, with no tilling of the soil. Okay the tornado did spread my compost over the area. LOL.

Hopefully this little girl will grow up and realize that you can't let other peoples fear teach you how to deal with life. I did and I was raised by a died in the wool southern baptist ministers daughter.

Yeah, i tend to agree. At the dentist a couple weeks ago, and they've got the christian talk radio turned up, but they're really good at the work in my oral place they do there, well, anyways, they know I have some pretty pets, but get all freaked out just talking about them, so I don't talk about them, but instead they insist on bringing it up every visit, whatever...

So the topic somehow got turned around to the talking snake in the garden of Eden which made the brother and sister eat the forbidden fruit and then do other stuff, and then I learned that dinosaurs were alive just 6000 years ago, and my work was completed, so I said... if there were talking snakes and dinosaurs not so long ago, but none are alive today, I guess that wasn't a very intelligent design after all, was it. And then they agreed and started to discuss it not being intelligent design, and that's when I got the L outta there.

Religion can be a touchy subject, but as it's already been broached here...

I am a former christian myself. Lost all my faith a few years ago now. I like to point out to people that in the story of the Garden of Eden, with the snake - it was the snake who told the truth, and it was God who lied. Adam and Eve did not die that very day ("the day in which you eat of it you will surely die.") They did become as gods, having the blinders removed.

Something I learned a long, long time ago is that inside every belief is a lie. In fact, you can't spell "belief" without "lie". I'm not sayin'; I'm just sayin'.

Well, if you believe the story. Adam and Eve were immortal before eating the fruit. So, God did not lie, because they surely did die. (we should turn this thread into a poem...LOL)

Yes, it wasn't a lie. They were no longer immoral, so they did die. As for dying "that day," they did die, inside. They learned of all the terrible things that people do everyday, all the murders and kidnappings and all sorts of crimes, and learned that they would be the cause of it all.

As for the rest of the topic, I'm sure there are plenty of verses that say snakes are not evil. If snakes were evil, would God have created them in the first place? Humans are much worse than snakes. Snakes just live, eat drink, wheras we know right from wrong and still screw it up. And I don't know why he cares if it wouldn't even be in his house. >_>

I'm so glad that I found this forum!
I told my niece she doesn't need to worry. That there are different view points on every topic, and to just let it be with her dad. There is nothing wrong with his beliefs because they are his! But she is her own person and alowed to have hers. I told her about this forum and if when she does get a wonderful snake that this place is the right place to be.
She understands what I was telling her, and said when she is old enough and has enough money, she is gonna get a snake. And that "dad" doesn't need to worry because she won't tell him. But thinks maybe she can convince him that they are good because God made them, and God dosesnt make bad things.

well, to say the least this is quite sad.. I hate that people feel the need to "stomp" all over everyone else's feelings just to justify there own beliefs. :(

it's a shame, I believe everything was put on this planet for a reason. From worms, all the way up to elephants. Each and ever animal deserves it's place on this planet, not to be labeled as "evil".
