Oh no, not again! My baby...

Do you ever attend the Reptile Expo in Mississauga? The next show is not until June 27, but there are tons of established breeders with corn snakes there. My corn snake and my king snake came from a breeder who vends at every show, and I'm extremely happy with them.

Thank you for the tip, I will keep that in mind. Wifey wanted me to by a Ball Python yesterday while we were looking at different replacements. I politely said, "I don't think so." :)

You're very welcome. If you're buying from someone you can actually meet in person, ask to see the snake eat.
Also, since weight and length of the snake can sometimes be deceptive, try to get a corn that is eating fuzzy mice, or even hoppers. My first corn was being fed pinkies, but she was ready to take small fuzzies/huge pinks when I got her. And the corn I got yesterday may be able to eat hoppers, but so far, neither have given me any problems.

It's a good idea to ask to see the snake eat. If it's not willing to feed "on command" though, that in and of itself isn't necessarily a reason to rule it out. Some of them are shy about eating in what they perceive to be an unusual situation. Having a full belly = being more likely to get eaten, so a refusal to eat on cue may just mean you're looking at a prudent snake!

An alternative would be asking for a picture of the snake with a full belly after its next meal.

Good luck with your next snake. I'm really sorry for your losses. :(

My first thought was the food.
Are all the mice from a certain place? Could they have been contaminated at home? Maybe already purchased that way?
Be skeptical of the food, if all else was correct.

Funny you mention that, that was one of the things I thought of too. The only thing was that the second little guy had eaten 3 of them. Something to think about for sure. Has anyone ever had a bad batch of food? If so how do you deal with it?
