Oil portrait of a dog

Anything Lava!
This is an oil painting I made for my girlfriend's birthday. Its a portrait of Henry, her family's goofball golden retriever. I had her mom send me a photo of Henry and I worked of of that.

Very nice!

You not only captured the look, but the personality as well. Wish I was so talented!

I hope you paint for a living. Because that is awesome. I have a picture I would love to commission someone like you to paint.

Thanks for all the love guys! Really really means a lot to me. This is the fifth oil painting I've ever made (but I've been drawing for years), so I have a ton of things to learn.

Thanks:) I might just wanna take on the challenge. Send me a PM with the picture if you want.

That is such a beautiful portrait, thanks for sharing it Martin. I think I'd cry like a baby if someone painted my dogs as beautifully as that

Wow!!! That's awesome!!! You really do have quite the talent! ;) My mom can paint but that talent apparantly passed over me and my sister inherited it :)

You're terrific. I love how you chose to paint on a dark canvas. Really makes the painting "pop" off the canvas. I wish I could paint!

Thanks very much for the compliments:) Actually Karen, the canvas was white, but I painted the background a deep black, specifically Burnt Umber pigments with an Ultramarine Blue glaze over it. You can't get darker than that.

BTW, I want to emphasize that EVERYONE can paint, its just a matter of laying down those first brush strokes and I guarantee you'll surprise yourself!

If you are serious, I'd definitely be honored to have you paint a portrait of my dogs! You are incredibly talented!
