okee or not okee that is the question

I believe John may have been referring to the argument regarding Okeetee "phase" versus Okeetee "locality". There are a few of us that do not recognize the use of the word Okeetee to describe a "look" and will only use it to describe a specimen that is know to have been captured, or descended from an animal that was captured, at the Hunt Club.

The swamp comment is a whole 'nother topic...... :rolleyes:

I happen to agree with you 100% on that issue, but doesn't it all tie in?
I mean, the Okee swamp in Fla? ...........Please. Now I'm getting myself in trouble because not only is the Okefenokee Swamp in southern Georgia, but it has nothing to do with Okeetee Corns. My original comment was intended as a little levity to John. I hope I don't come off sounding upset or anything,
just trying to explain myself.

Not at all :) The Okeetee debate gets rather heated around here.....

I'm sure this isn't the last post on this subject. :rolleyes:
 
Thanks CAV, I have been debating this okeetee thing for years. I live in Pinellas Co, Fla which is a great place to live if you like corns. There seems to be a population of wild corns here that can ALMOST rival the best Okeetee's, and I've PO'd a few people in my time over the facts.
 
I really believe that seeing is believing. For those that have never seen a bona fide WC Okeetee, it is hard to describe the stark difference between a "normal" corn and an "Okeetee". There really is no comparison and they stand out dramatically. No confusing them side-by-side......
 
i didn't mean to start a fued here i just relayed what the reptile guy told me and you know how it goes.... i sort of have sometimers i tend to forget word for word what was explained to me but i know okee and fla was mentioned either way i love my snakes no matter where they came from .

some snakes are popular because of who bred them, not what kind of breed they are, right?

This okeetee feud was started long ago, hope we didn't offend you. Your snake is an absolute stunner and as long as you are happy with him, that's all that really matters. Some people may be under the impression that because a well known breeder produced their snake, that it is the ultimate. This is nonsense. And I think the breeders themselves will agree with this.(No hate mail please).

Cav, I can't wait to see what mine look like as yearlings. Mine are all direct descendents of wild-caught Okeetees from the hunt club and I hope they're as beautiful as yours. They are getting some awesome borders already and the orange is starting to come out, but they are only 6 months old right now. The Okee swamp thing was pretty cute though....I thought there was a new wild caught coloration or something I missed!

I'm on my new computer. I will get photos up soon of wild-caught "Hunt Club corns". CAV's photos are F1's, parents from the hunt club property. Okeetees are normals, agreed. And Fords are cars. :duck:
 
They look like Okeetee's, but again, unless they are from or are descended from wild caught specimens from the Okeetee area, they are normals with Okeetee-type coloration. Very pretty snakes by the way!
 
The one on the left does look like an Okeetee to me. The one on the right might be but it's clearly not as attractive regardless.

Btw, my avatar is also a WC Okeetee from right smack in the middle of the plantation. She will be breeding for her first time this year.

John, this guy was blue when you came to see my collection. He's got that down to a science. When someone is visiting or I have a presentation to take him to, he'll be at the peak of dullness.

PS: I'd love to swap a pair of hatchlings with you this summer. May be in Jasper for Valentine's weekend. You know, the romantic getaway to HH island where I ask my girlfriend to drop me off and swing back by in four hours. ;)

Hey! I've seen that pic before, I think it must have been over at that "other" forum.
Sweet. You can see that orange ventral pretty good in that shot. A point that I think was overlooked during this.............discussion.
 
Clarification

Ok Chip, I've just run through some of the other forums here and noticed Rhett is all over the place. What I meant is that I think I saw this pic quite a while ago somewhere else. And there is no way Anyone would leave that on the road!
