positioning of thermometer.

Do you currently use a thermostat? I am going to get one sometime. It won't really be necessary for the summer in Illinois, but in the winter I will definitely need it to control the temp. Plus there is always the possibility of expanding the collection, which will make a thermostat handy. I have read a lot about the thermostats and it seems like most people are pretty high on Helix and Big Apple Herp proportional units.

I invested in the Helix unit this year. after finding myself with 9 corns, and 3 more on the way this fall, not to mention all the little ones I am expecting, I decided to go ahead and build a rack. and got the helix unit to control it.

yeh i have got a thermostat, newly installed today, its a habistat one, its doing the job, it has got a temp probe on it to keep the area where the prob is located at the temp i want. thanx for the help guys

No problem steprice. I am considering the Helix. I know it seems a bit much for just one snake, but I figure I paid $80 after shipping for this one and if I lost this one and had to get another that is $160. So if I avoid that scenario by going with a slightly more dependable unit then the ~$100 Helix has already paid for itself IMO. Plus I've already been looking into more corns for the future!

Here's a testimony to add to what's already been suggested. In fact, Cav hit it right on the head. After a year with a stick on, I invested a whole $10.00 on a digital thermometer and found that my stick on was off by almost 10 degrees farenheit. Hmmm, I wonder if that had anything to do with a regurg problem early on??? :puke02: You don't waste any more time, I suggest you get one pronto.

It certainly looks like it should do the job. Just make sure it is set on outdoor when you are taking readings inside the viv!

looks good to me too. Although, it also looks like this one takes the indoor and outdoor temps simultaniously. Which means that you don't have to worry about setting it to indoor or outdoor. just read the instructions (if any come with it) before you go to using it.

and look at that...under 10...

hmmm.....iv just looked at the temperature range it measures. Temperature range is
-50 deg C to 70 deg C. now im gona sound stupid but when people say it should be mid 80's what units are we talking?

Farinhiet. Most of the people on here from the US only talk in F. so for you C people out there, you are looking for a temp of 25 to 30 degrees C.
