Progression thread: Cleo the Butter Motley

It has been a while. I went to Baltimore, got stuck in the record breaking blizzard the end of January, and came home a few days late with a really nasty cold made worse by the flight home.

It was my first time away from my snake babies and both fared well. I had both their normal water dishes and 22 ounce ZooMed water resevoirs in their vivs. When I got home the regular water dishes were almost empty but there was plenty of water in the reservoirs. I did have someone keep an eye on the snakeys, but no additional care was needed. They each missed a feeding and I wasn't well enough to resume feeding until my second day home.

Today was the first time I felt up to having either of them out. Cleo was totally mellow. Even though she's barely been handled for two weeks she was totally calm. What a sweet girl! She's so trusting. At one point I put my eyes at her level at the edge of the bed and she crawled within inches of my face.

Here are a few quick pics. These are the first tongue shots I've gotten. I love her little light pink tongue. She's 35 grams and eating 5 gram fuzzies at a six day interval. I'm a little more conservative than Munson and don't want to grow her too fast.

She's no longer a little worm, that's for sure. She has the size and self assurance of a youngster, rather than a baby. And yes, I still love her to pieces.

My original flight was Monday but I rescheduled to Wednesday. By then things were back to normal at BWI. I got to enjoy the toilet paper, milk, and bread shopping before the storm hit, lol.

Thanks for the compliment on Cleo's looks :D

She's very beautiful, her colors are more vibrant at every pic you post. I'm still amazed by that eyebrows, though, :p
May I ask what the reservoir water looks like? I'll have a holiday trip of about 1 week this summer and I'm looking for a solution with the water.

I love the tongue pictures lol she is so cute!!

Nicole

Thank you!

Thanks. Yes she does have very prominent eyebrows! Here is a pic of the reservoir:

There are a number of them on the market and I read a lot of reviews before settling on these ZooMed ones.

Aha, I imagined somethink like this, kinda hamster like, but I wanted to make sure. I think something like this will do for just 1 week.
Thank you!

Nice pics! Cleo is really great looking! I'm sure she's happy you're home. Good idea with the water. I'll have to look into that.

Thanks Ken! She sure is a love bug.

I can't remember where I read that you could use a reservoir for trips. Maybe it was even an older thread here. I ended up being gone for 6 days and there was plenty of clean water left. The only thing I worried about was poop in the water dish, but I fed them a few days before I left and they had both pooped at least once so that helped to minimize that possibility. I really didn't want to worry about them digesting while I was gone, either.

Gail ....
I suppose a snake could survive 4 or 5 weeks or longer without food with no problem. If it were fed well, and like you said, given 2 or 3 days to poo, then if I were to leave for a trip the water should stay fairly clean. I may use that method this summer for a one week trip!
BTW ... I love the little stairs inside the water dish in case Cleo falls in she can step out with no trouble! :)

Singing the blues

I haven't updated Cleo for a while. I could tell she was going into shed, though it was early and she was still eating. But I did limit handling because she was slowing down and hiding a lot. On Tuesday I skipped feeding because she was starting to go blue. Today, Friday, I made a quick check and she is deep in blue.

Who was it that said you can't tell on a red-eyed snake, lol?

Actually all my life I never even heard the term "Going Blue" until I found this website almost a year ago. Prior to that I always referred to the eyes as having that "Milky Look." I still think that term is better because not all snake's eyes turn blue, but they do look Milky.

It's funny how terms change over the years.

I mean, you can in a link... ;)

Oh thanks. I forgot about that! Funny how easy it is to get tunnel vision and set in my ways.

Yep, it sure is interesting how stuff changes. But seriously, her irises do look look very light lavender to me. You were spot on with the purple. You are right about the milky as well. Maybe it's called "blue" 'cause their owners feel blue and miss their snakes during shed... or not, lol. :p

I have an AMEL that if super hard to tell if she's in blue cause she only stays "milky" for like a day then she clears up and sheds in about a week!! My Tessera on the other hand turns super blue and stays that way for over a week before she sheds!!

Nicole

Yeah, I've experienced the blue for a day. It's easy to miss when it goes that fast!

Cleo is definitely stretching out her sheds in interval and duration.

Fourth day in blue and counting here...
