Hi Everyone!
I am going to build a viv to my corn snake and was thinking about: 100x40x40= 40 gallon.
Is that too big?How many hides does he need?
How often should i handle my snake??
Should i wait a few days after hes eaten to hold him?how long time does it take to tame them?
I have bought a black albino corn and was wondering if they liked bright light?
And my last questions: Do i need to put a lamp in the viv or is it enough with a heating mat??
Is it enough if i give my corn 1 mouse a week whens he little and 1 once a week when hes big?(though i will buy bigger mice when he grows of course). I was thinking of just giving him 1 a week so that i can handle him more.

Hope some1 answers=)

p.s.has anyone here got a black albino?

My snake is called Chinook=)

I can only answer one of those. when they are little feed them every 3 to 4 days. hopes that helps, oh and hinds, the more the better when there little but not to many. like one on the left, in the middle, and one on the right. but if someone correctes me on this then I'm sorry I gave you misinformed information.

100"x40"x40"? If you're talking about that----that is WAY bigger than 40 gallons. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY bigger. A 100"x40"x40" 'viv' would be almost 700 gallons.

A 20"x20"x20" viv will give you about 35 gallons.

If you have a hatchling the 'theory' is that a large tank can make them uncomfortable and insecure, so if you're going to do that make sure you have plenty of hides so your snake doesn't have to be out in the open to move from one side of the tank to the next. Paper towel rolls work well. You can also get fake silk plants from any craft store---they seem to like those.

Your snake will tell you how often you can handle it. If it is very jumpy at first, limit how much time you handle him while you gently get him used to you. Dont hold him for an hour a day 5 times while he's just a baby. He might do fine, but he might not.

Let me correct you on this. I personally hate the 'albino' term, and the correct name for the type of morph you got is an Anerythristic, or Anery corn.

Bright light? Not necessary and I'd suggest it. If you want to use a light get a red reptile light. Do not put any lamps INSIDE the viv. A snake can burn itself on the bulb if you do that.

A UTH will normally provide enough heat, but you also need to get a digital thermometer for your cage. You can find those in Walmart for less than $10. Don't guess on the temps in your viv.

A appropriately sized mouse a week is enough. Give your snake 3 days to digest and try to feed in a seperate container, or a deli cup inside the viv.

Many people here have Anerys. Go over to the photo forum and look around--you'll see pictures.

I wouldn't do that---that's powerfeeding. Once every 5-7 days is enough for a hatchling while they're on pinkies and fuzzies. After that, every 7 days is plenty when they're onto hoppers.

Every 3-4 days is barely giving the snake enough time to fully digest it's meal before the next meal is offered. That means zero handling time---which I guess is okay if you're just trying to raise it up to breeding size in ~24 months.

I wouldn't put that much strain on any of my snakes.

You can find loads of caresheets online. Just go to google and type in 'Corn Snake Caresheet'.

Also I can't recommend Kathy Love's 'Corn Snake Manual' enough, its got all the information you need to know about looking after your corn snake.

And of course, keep asking here on the forum, everyone will be happy to help you out :)

LOL...what is it about MY screen name that EVERYONE seems to like? You are the 2nd person (that I know of) who has taken a variation of it since I've been visiting these forums.

To be honest, it confuses people because they tend to just read "corncrazy" and think it's me that has posted.
