Racks?

My mom said I don't need 2 snakes (even though I pay for Loki virtually all by myself and could pay for this one all by myself) and I don't have any space to put another snake, even though I do have space. Maybe I'll broach the issue again a little later. Boas aren't going anywhere in the meanwhile.

My 2 cents... Dumerils are awesome. I have two, they are gentle giants even on a bad day, worse they do is push my hand away with a coil (much like a female corn when you collect her eggs.) But yeah... sounds like you'll have to wait, sorry.

We went to EBV today and although we didn't get to *see* the Dumeril's that they had (it was in a tub) my mom did *see* boas and while I don't think her mind was rotated in the complete opposite direction, she did appreciate how beautiful they are. We're going back in a month, so... who knows?

The only thing about buying right from EBV, while they're very reputable, is that their prices seem pretty high. :/ They had a plain Normal corn there for $100.

Also...jeez this is a ridiculous question, but do I need a rack to have a tub? Obviously I know that the tub will need a lid but I have this vision of the snake moving the tub whilst it moves around.

No you don't need a rack, but I don't know how well clips would hold a big snake, a corn sure, but if we're still talking about a dumerils... Just judging from my two though they don't make a lot of whole hearted escape attempts at all. If my big guy wanted to, he could easily bend the plastic top of his exo terra viv. The only time I ever really notice him pushing and nose rubbing is in a snake bag. He hates the snake bag. I think your mom has that "big monster man eating" stigma that media has splattered all over the name "boa." I just wish she could see how great they are. I'm pretty good at, well my snakes are good at making people realize their fear and hatred are unfounded.

My boa is my favorite snake (shhhhhhhhhh don't tell the corns). Weda, I find it interesting that yours hates the snake bags, mine does too. He HATES when I try putting him in one, then he pushes and stretches the whole time he's in one. If I take him places I tend to pull him out of the bag right when I arrive to my destination.

I would recommend a vision cage for the larger species of boas like what has been mentioned here. They are sturdy and made for them, I have yet to have any humidity, escape, etc issues with mine (I have showcase cages, which are just fancy versions of vision).

Yup, we tried the snake bag once and he had to come out as soon as we got to the vet, I couldn't stand him rubbing his poor nose on that bag anymore, it's ridiculous how strong he can be when he wants out of that thing. Now we use a tub when he sees the doc. He just curls up and chills in the tub, it's opaque, but I don't think he would care if it were clear, he just hates the bag.

Thank you guys - I think that seeing the boas at EBV did relax her. I can't get boas off my mind  I never got the potato-chip feeling with corns, but...boas... Will definitely look into the Vision cage, thank you Ali!!

Vision cages are a bit pricey, but boas are not as high stress as ball pythons, so you can get a 4 ft cage and put young boa in there and if it is a smaller subspecies, it'll live just fine in there for its lifetime.

Is the 4 foot one the 48 x 26 x 14"? O.O as that is near $300 and substantially more money than I intended to spend.
