I have faith. In my chosen deities. Just because my chosen path is not Christian, does not make me faithless.

Not quite my cup of tea... I am a firm believer personally... but I don't think there's any reason for everyone to believe the same things. Faith, regardless of deity, is usually beneficial... and long as it does that without hurting others... everything goes.

I'm one of those people I don't care if you believe in the wind, the moon, god, gods, as long as you respect my ability to believe in my god/gods/goddess.
I don't see any good coming from sending people to hell because they don't believe in my god or yours, if there is a hell.
Also what good would it be if I am 'saved' and all my friends are in hell, wouldn't I still be in hell. For me my faith is the life I make now the rights and the wrongs, how I conduct myself, am I a kind generous person accepting of others. These are things I will work on all my life.

And my view is believe what you want! But understand that there are people with different beliefs out there. It doesn't really matter, unless in perpetuating those beliefs it causes undue emotional or physical harm to others. I do not see any reason to persecute people in the name of religion, unfortunately it happens all too often. Wars, murders, alienation, hate...all in the name of one religion or another. So believe what you want, but don't expect everyone to believe the same, and don't persecute them for it. I accept all people who are accepting of others, even if I don't share their same belief system. I am happy to discuss and learn about the different viewpoints we may take should it remain a civil discussion. I am happy to be friends with christians, jews, muslims, pagans, buddhists, atheists, etc... We are all people of this Earth.

I hope you don't think I'm trying to force my faith down your throat. I'm just sharing my beliefs, just as you are sharing yours.

From a non-believer, please let me try to explain this.

Saying that anyone who doesn't believe your faith is doomed to eternal torment and punishment *does* come across as forcing faith. By saying that, you say that I *deserve* to be in the most horrific pain possible for ever and ever just because I didn't *believe*. I haven't murdered or tortured or kidnapped or raped anyone. I have gone out of my way to help people and animals, sometimes to my own detriment. I'm not perfect, because no one is. But because I am imperfect I'm going to be set on fire for the rest of existence. Just for that. Just for being human.

It's psychological abuse, in a way. We are disgusted by people who tell their children "You're stupid and evil and will never amount to anything and you aren't worthy of being loved" so why are we supposed to find the same things as 'benevolent' when they come from a deity? Why should I smile and nod my head and say "You're right! I'm a horrible horrible being deserving of absolutely nothing and need someone else to make me good!"

The best of the 'rules' from judaism and christianity were around long before those religions. They are rules that allow for a social species to continue to *be* a social species. Don't kill. Don't steal. Don't rape. Don't harm children. Wait, except that there is a commandment that says to kill children if they are disrespectful of their parents.

Why haven't we all been stoned to death?

Equally, I do not believe that a third party can forgive my transgressions. If I do someone harm, it is not God and Jesus who must forgive me, it is the person I harmed. Even if I repent of the action, I am not forgiven until the individual I have harmed has forgiven me. And I refuse to be held accountable for an action taken by someone who didn't exist. For being born human. If I follow all the rules except the "believe in me" rule, why do I still deserve hell? Yes, that one could be seen as a transgression needing forgiveness from the deity in question, but why would an omnipotent, omniscient, and supposedly omnibenevolent being feel so strongly that they need *worship* as to create a place like hell just for those who don't?

I totally see where you are coming from. I apologize if you feel that I am trying to condemn you, for that is not my intention at all. I respect the fact that everyone has their own beliefs. I completely disagree with your beliefs, but that doesn't mean you don't deserve respect. Once again, I am in no way trying to say I'm better than you, because I certainly am not.

I would like to try to clarify something, however. The Bible says that we ALL deserve death, regardless of our faith. As you said, humans are not perfect. Regardless of whether we believe in God or not, we have all sinned against Him and will continue to do so. You say that you haven't murdered, tortured, kidnapped or raped anybody, but you have still sinned (and so has everyone else, including myself). While murder, rape, kidnapping, etc. are worse in our eyes than many other sins, God doesn't see it that way. To God, there are not different "levels" of sin. Sin is sin, period. The awesome thing about God is that despite how undeserving we are, he still wants a relationship with us. He still sent His son to die for us. THAT is what makes God so awesome in my eyes.

I just have one comment on all this.
What does it matter what ones beliefs are? We are all human beings and being that none of us are going to think and believe alike. If we were all identical the world would be a boring place for sure. I may not like what a person believes in but I respect thier right to believe it.

If there is life on other planets, what would that do to your religious faith? Would you still believe? Was Jesus crucified for the sins of people on these planets too, or did God send them one of his other sons? Maybe these planets are sinless and don’t need to be saved. Either way, I’d be curious to hear your thoughts...

Interesting point. Since I don't believe there are people living on other planets, it is kind of hard for me to answer your question fully. I don't have all the answers, and I don't believe any one person does. I will say, however, that nothing will ever cause me to lose my faith in Jesus Christ.

Do plants and animals and amoebas go to heaven too? Serious question.
Which leads to sarcastic question...

There is much debate on whether or not animals go to heaven. It is my personal opinion at this time that they do not. The way I see it is that they aren't capable of having a personal relationship with Jesus. I'm not gonna lie, I certainly hope there will be animals in heaven, but I just can't say for sure.

As far as plants and amoebas, I have never even heard someone ask that before, but I would say no, they probably will not go to heaven. But once again, I won't claim to fully know the answer to that question.

But if Heaven is truly the best place that we can end up, animal people like me NEED our dearly departed best buddies to greet us or it just won't be a place we want to go to.
I don't know what happens when we go, but if it is possible I want to be with all my furry friends in the end. I remember a poem, don't remember where I read it or who the poet is, but here it is.....

No Heaven can ever Heaven be
Unless my dog is there to welcome me.

Kind of how I feel.....

I understand your point as well. That's actually something I've contemplated before. It's hard to know exactly what heaven is like. The Bible does describe it, but I don't think we can know what heaven is truly like until we get there.

A heaven without animals for me is hell. In fact, a heaven where anyone exists in hell would be a hell to me. If I cannot stand to see anything in even temporary pain here, how could I possibly stand to know there are individuals in eternal torment for being how they were created.

"I created you imperfect and because I messed up, I'm gonna hurt you." Yeah. That doesn't fly.

When I was a kid, my parents had us attend Sunday school. It was what you did in the 60s-70s if you were a "good" parent. It was kind of fun, no hard lessons and alot of coloring and singing. When we got a little older we stopped going, and never went to church.

My mother, aunt, sister and sister in law see a psychic or medium. They absolutely believe what he tells them. The first time they went I didn't say much, as I thought it was a complete hoax. They came back and told me some things that I have a real hard time with. He knew intimate details about long dead family members, and things that had happened over 70 years ago in my family. He said things out of the blue that made perfect sense to them, but wouldn't make sense to anyone else. He knew things that I really can't explain away.

I hope to see pets of the past in heaven...

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that his faithful dog had been dead for many years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. As he reached the wall, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch, and the street that led to the gate made from pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water? We have traveled far," the man said.

"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."

The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment, remembering all the years this dog remained loyal to him and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going. After another long walk he came to a plain dirt road, which led through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water? We have traveled far."

"Yes, sure, there's a faucet over there." The man pointed to a place that couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in and help yourself."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to his dog.

"There should be a bowl by the faucet; he is welcome to share."

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned faucet with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree waiting for them.

"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.

"This is heaven," was the answer.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No. We're just happy that they screen out the folks who'd leave their best friends behind in exchange for material things."

I have seen this before, and LOVED it. Still do!!

And just to clarify my previous post, this medium takes reservations weeks in advance, but never takes the client's last names. So I can't see how he can do any research in advance. Plus alot of what he did tell my mom and aunt are things that happened long before the internet was invented, and things that are decades past....
Anyway, although I am not religious, I do believe that there is something that happens when we die. That somehow we go on, just not in this form. We are energy, after all. And energy can change form but not completely go away.

For me, there is no incentive to believe in any god. I would have to believe that there is a heaven, and a hell, which I do not. I have lived 30 years without a god, and I have to say that Im extremely happy, and successful in all the ways that matter. To me, thats all that matters in life. I live each day as they come, and have thus far, lived life to the fullest :) . Why spend your life worrying about going to heaven or hell? Or if you have sinned? Or if your god is going to forgive you, or whatever. Just enjoy the time you have, the best that you can.

I saw an angel once; it was pure mathematics. The most beautiful sight, like a cube that collapsed in on itself only to reform continuously.

I've seen ghosts as well. Once when I was waiting tables a large party of men came. One of these men had bright blue eyes and dark hair, he smiled at me and waved. I waved back, but every time I turned to him to get his order he shifted between the other men. I never saw any of them move out of the way or change seats. As I was asking why their friend wouldn't hold still and tell me what he wanted, I found out later they were Paratroopers and on their way back from the funeral of one of their own. I told them he was with them now, but I think they took it metaphorically.

Can someone here explain the me the concept of the "immortal soul"? This has me confused.... :shrugs:
