Request: Wild-Caught Corns Only

WOW! these WC's are stunning! It looks like I need to hunting in backyard some time. (Since most of these snakes in this thread were found in my area.)

Got this little one a week or two ago. He was caught by a friends wife in their garage here in Citrus County, Florida. I haven't sexed it yet, waiting until they settle in a little.

Very nice corns.. I am loving how a lot of the WC have that dark melanin wash like the male I have. And I am wondering why we breed away from that, we should have one line that we breed for that look.. I bet it doesnt show up well enough at hatchling stage to show up though.

I agree with RavenSpirit.
The female that Zorro posted is gorgeous.
Can't there be something done with such a beautiful dark snake?

Zorro, did you breed with the female?

What a stunning range of colours.

Very few of these wild Normals look anything like the accepted red/brown/orange colouration of captive-bred Normals.

The next time someone someone asks if theirs is a Miami, this thread should be their first stop.

NC Wild Caught

This guy is from the black mountain range in NC (Yancey Co. to be specific). If it works, the "normal" one is a female caught in Marion Co., SC. She was gravid with 12 good eggs and my first ever corn. Last one is of a somewhat "banded" okeetee caught in Jasper Co., SC by a friend on his land. By far the Jasper Co. female is the nicest normal wc I have seen

Florida WC's

First two pics are of a Southern Suwannee County, Florida female found on 05/21/06 at 8:00am crossing a sand road about 3 miles west of the Columbia Co. line. The outdoor pic was taken the day I found her. The other pic was taken indoors today. She looked to be a young adult when found.

Below is a Columbia County, Florida male that was found crossing a paved road at 9:30am on 10/03/06, about 2 miles east of the Suwannee Co. line. Pics taken today.

The pic below is of a Hamilton County, Florida juvenile female that was given to me by a friend in Aug. 07. He saw the snake get run over. When he brought her to me, I didn't think she would make it. Her head was kinda smashed, and her bottom jaw was way out of align as well as having a small kink in her neck. She didn't act right or move properly. I moved her spine back straight, and messed with her bottom jaw and reshaped her head like I was molding clay. I didn't really think it was going to make a difference, since I thought she would be dead in a day or two, but she is still doing fine and eating f/t hopper mice every 5 - 7 days. She is in deep shed as you can see. Pic taken today

Your Columbia/Suwannee Counties look a lot like my Alachua County. What town do you live in up there?

Suwannee Co.

I live in Wellborn. Wellborn is just west of Lake City on Hwy. 90. Actually, I live 10 miles south of Hwy 90 just off County Road 137, but it's still considered Wellborn.

I know Wellborn! I've ridden my bike through there a couple times. I do this thing called "randoneuring" where there is a series of rides a month apart- 200k, 300k, 400k and 600k. The route has gone through Wellborn. Like, we start in Gainesville at the VA hospital and head out in various directions. I've ridden up to Madison Blue Springs and back!

More very nice WC corns, Thank you for sharing :)
And wow that little girl is lucky to be alive, I am glad she is doing good. Does she have any signs of her injury left?

wc

As far as I can tell she is fine. She is eating great, sometimes snatching the f/t mice from the hemostats, and she is shedding normally. No strange movements. I reckon she is as good as new.

here is my pic of my corn Houdini

I just measured and weighed it today before feeding it 2 fuzzies, it is about 60 to 65 grams and approx. 26 inches. I use aspen for the bottom of the viv and store but green moss on top of that. one water bowl, one log and one hide.

Very nice, how often do you feed?
John

In a current thread, KJ (KJUN) made some interesting points about the captive population and wild populations of corns. It got me thinking about how cool it would be if there was a book or site where there were tons of photos of wild-caught corns from different, specified localities. Since there probably isn't such a book or site, I figured I'd start this thread.

Please no F1s, F2s, etc., even of wild-caught parents. I'd like to see actual wild-hatched, WCs. If the locality and approximate age are known, please specify! :) Kisatchies and Emoryi are welcome.

The only WC corn I've ever owned died. But I have pics of her. Her age was unknown and she was caught in the Port St. Lucie FL area. She was freshly shed in these shots.

That snake is gorgeous! My Pandora was reportedly WC (not by me), but I don't know the location.

every 5 to 7 days, the next time it feeds i will bump it up from fuzzies to the next size.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of that awesome WC, Roy, she was a brute. Here are some miscellaneous shots of various WC I collected or ran across in the past years. I also just had one recently show up on my back porch I am just waiting for her to shed to snap some pics, shes really melanistic looking with some cool undertones.

Here is a post shed pic of the Hamilton Co. Florida female that had the mashed head. She ate last night and I took the pic this morning.
