Rich... Forum space?

My Other Two Cents ~~~~~~:~

Hi Sky Please accept my welcome to the forum. I have only been here myself for about a year. I may have been the one that started the "idea" about membership but my thought or thoughts were on various levels. I don't have a cue as to the cost of maintaining a site like this but I have found it very useful as well as fun. Most of the people seem to be good natured and full of helpful advice and information. I would hate to see it disappear because of cost when there are so many of us that enjoy and support the site.
My thought was as an OPTION a person could sort of up their "status" by paying a membership fee. I think the idea is like public TV or radio, you can still listen or watch but ...."For only $25.00 you can support and get a T-shirt or mug" That sort of idea. I think what motivated me was that I'd love to own a cornsnake t-shirt! Some thing that said ...PROUD Parent of a SERPENCO Cornsnake. Silly me. Well anyhow, glad you like the site. I love it and wish I had more time to spend here. Talk to you later...Sam ~~~~~~:~

Thanks for the friendly welcome

I appreciate the welcome. I look forward to more conversations and meeting new people.

Pop-up

Hey Rich! i totaly agree with you, you must place some ads! i really HATE pop-up advertisements! but if you need it to keep up the forum i say Go for it!

I'm just consuming your mony here! if it means i have to klick a couple of times extra i don't realy mind!

Good luck and Thanx for the forum!!

I hate popups as much as anyone else, so I will not use anything like that. I have the vertical banner to the right of the screen working well so far and will likely add a horizontal formatted one at the top of the screen. I was playing around the other night and just put the text up there ('Banner Placement') so I would know where to put the banner code when I am ready.

My goal is to have the advertising pay for this server I am leasing. If I could make a few bucks off of it, that would be great, but I'm not holding my breath. Advertising is a good passive way of doing this, since many breeders and other businesses will want to target their audience as best as possible. By providing them with the ability to target a bunch of people interested in corn snakes, I think that will be sufficient for them to feel they are getting their money's worth paying for an ad. In return, since it really doesn't cost me any more to run the banner ads, their payments help pay for all this, which keeps it free for everyone.

YOUR job will be to convince those advertisers that their money is well spent by giving them your business whenever you can. And tell them that you saw their ad here. They will want to know this and it will make my job easier when I approach them about renewing an ad that is about to elapse.

This seems to be working well for my FaunaClassifieds site, so I'm hoping this site can pick up some of the load.

Thanks.
