RodentPro Horror...

Another repeat customer of rodentpro. I have never had a problem with their shipping. I had a problem ordering from them last time, I sent them an email and they replied to it within 20 minutes.
If they make a mistake as large companies will, I have every confidence they will refund your money or replace the shipment. I think they are also the most affordable place for somebody that has to order in bulk, I for one cannot afford to pay an arm and leg for shampooed and vacuum sealed mice. I can vacuum seal the mice at home, anyway. My snakes have done fine on a rodentpro diet and I have never had a rotten pinky that falls apart as you describe. I encourage you to contact them if you got a bad batch, they will make good on their mistakes!

How many people in this thread that are 'loyal' RP customers talk about the occasional screw up? Wrong sizes? Partially frozen mice?

Look at some of the other threads....; bedding crusted mice, mice with no arms, legs or heads, freezer burned mice, mice with a stench of urine...

My biggest question is why in the heck would you settle for a company that 'usually gets it right, but sometimes screws up'? How many negative threads have you seen regarding the quality of mice from TMF or Big Cheese?

Would we order snakes from Kathy or Rich if they were 'usually good, but frequently dropped dead'? I sure as hell wouldn't. It's pretty obvious that RP doesn't exactly check what they send out---and as customers you should not have to send an email to someone stating that your mice are a black ooze and falling apart. Mice like that should never be sent out.

They don't LITERALLY shampoo their mice, Jen, it just LOOKS that way. ;) I think this is because the mice are kept in very clean conditions. Maybe it's a topic for another thread, and I don't have scientific data to back me up, but I'm convinced that TMF mice are more nutritious than most of the f/t out there. I have to slow down feeding frequencies on even younger snakes because they grow faster than I need them to on normal schedules using these mice. I'm guessing that in the end, I'm paying LESS for equivalent growth than RP customers.

And even though that last order was only a little more than half of my regular order, it still consisted of 25-30 individual packages. I can't afford the TIME that it would take to vac-seal that many (or more) packages.

I guess it would be a good experiment, if somebody wanted to do it - feed half your snakes from RP and half from TMF on the same schedule. Maybe you are right and they'd grow faster. I'm not in a hurry to grow my snakes, they have reached breeding size in three years, sometimes two, on the rodentpro mice so it must be working. I don't know, if it's good enough for Kathy Love it is good enough for me!
I like vacuum sealing the mice, because I get to decide how many go in each package. It is time consuming, though.

:laugh: You wouldn't want that job anyway. Your hands would be water-wrinkled all the time.

For me, it's not about being in a hurry to grow them-- it's about the time savings of having to feed them less frequently.

I don't know, if it's good enough for Kathy Love it is good enough for me!

I don't disagree. RP has a HUGE customer base, and they couldn't maintain it if they weren't generally satisfying those customers. To paraphrase a KKK guy I heard on TV once: "It's not that I hate RP; I just LOVE TMF!" ;)
 
I hear you about the time thing, Dean. I guess since I have more time than money, as the saying goes, it's not an issue here. But spending time on the hobby is what it's all about, I like feeding day, feeding my snakes is like my zen meditation time.
(Ok maybe not when I have four clutches worth to feed all at once)
 
I LOVE the Mouse Factory, and have been one of their very loud supporters here on this site since I've started using them.
But as Dean mentioned, my last order of large pinks couldn't be filled. They were very up front about it though and I ordered half and half large and small pinks instead.
Maybe our TMF advertising here is working too well, lol. But I'll never order from another company.
I complained once to RP about some fuzzies I got that stunk, had busted legs, hair falling out, freezer burn, etc. I got a VERY fast response and the mice were replaced. I will not fault them on customer service which is excellent- the OP will easily be satisfied since his experience I'm sure is extreme, but I'm just not crazy about the best of their product.

I agree, I was absolutely amazed how fast my Amber female grew on only TMF mice. Thanks for pointing that out Roy, I wouldn't have made the connection as I have always used TMF for feeding. They have SUPER-mice...:dancer:

Now that you mention it (I assumed every place was like this).
Our RP orders I sorted out...the med pinkies were essentially three different size groups...enough of a diffrence to just eyeball.)

There were a lot of arms legs and tails broken off and out of 100 pinkies 5 had heads that had broken off and were rolling about in the bag...is that pretty standard?

I've heard that with RodentPro, yes, that's pretty standard. Pinkies are very fragile when frozen, and if they're not correctly packed then parts will snap off during transit. TMF use fantastic packaging and so therefore, that chance is significantly reduced. Just look at this picture, they're good enough for me to shove in a casserole!

Well, I just reluctantly placed an order with Mice Direct, because I need tiny pinks, and they have a sale on peach fuzzies (100/$12) so I got some of those too. Their shipping is outrageous. $70 for two day, when TMF would be $30 or less for next day??? I'll let you know how the mice are. I love TMF, though- they are the best. I've bought from MD before at shows. They're ok. Whatever they sell at the Exo Terra shop at shows is gross, though- bedding, strong mouse smell, poo. I only buy from them in an emergency.

And that casserole idea is REALLY temping:laugh01: I am in a rut for meals plans around here, and a bit punchy from cabin fever, I offerd our middle son a "f/t waffle" for breakfast, yes he looked at me like I had lost my mind:shrugs:

Either way you thaw it, this is a very helpful thread for several reasons. Especially to those of us nervous about dropping a chunck of change just to see how much greener the grass is someplace else.

I just wish I could order from them, but unfortunately, the cost of shipping a box of mice next day from the US would probably cost more than me setting up my own mouse factory :grin01:

Not a broad selection no, I don't order online anyway. I have a local reptile shop that I buy from, and they get their mice from www.livefoods.co.uk, which is probably one of the biggest producers of frozen mice and live food like crickets and locusts, in the UK. I get most of my tank decorations, thermostats etc. from there, and the occasional box of live food for my gecko, but never frozen mice.
 
Interesting how things are so different yet so much the same no matter where we are geographically:)
 
I did a comparison and by the time shipping is factored in an order of 100 pinkies is for TMF is 45.00$ and the RP quote is 49.06, thats 4.06$ I can save for more feeders ( obviously this is a small quantity and specific to my location)....

What I like about them is that each pinky is in its own little ziploc bag, which I just throw in a cup of warm water to thaw. Do any of the online companies individually bag the mice? Or are they in one big frozen lump? Do you have to break one off when you need it? Thanks

As far as I know there are no companies that indivualy pack each one. I'm sure the price would go up then. They can be lightly stuck together but are usually easily pulled away without breaking parts off. I just throw mine (without baggies)in a cup of water too... no worries/no problems.
 
I think there is a pet shop brand that individually packs them - maybe Arctic Mice? Maybe Mice on Ice? But I think they are quite expensive.

As mentioned, they are usually easy to get apart without thawing them.
