Rose is going to double clutch! Do they do before or after first clutch hatches?

Corn snakes rule!
Just curious to find out if when a corn snake is going to double clutch do they normally lay them after the first clutch starts to hatch or before or does it just depend on temps and stuff? Her first clutch is doing excellent and are on day 52-53. I felt like 7 or 8 eggs in her tonight and gave her a couple of fuzzie mice and put her in a nest box. She did shed her skin last Thursday before we left on vacation. Thanks for any replies.

It does depend on temps, etc. A second clutch can be laid before, or after, the first clutch pips/hatches. Generally, a second clutch (if a female double clutches) is laid approx. 2 months (give or take) after the first.

Eidt: It also depends on just when the female double clutches since it can be 2 months, after the first clutch, or a little sooner/later.

I had two corns double clutch so far. One double clutched (into her water dish ugh) 60 days after she laid her clutch, also on the same day her first set started pipping.

Now I just had another one double clutch all slugs over the weekend and again, only a week before her first clutch got to 60 days.

Both females hadnt been with a male in 80-90 days.

Usually right around when the first clutch pips, although a little later is not uncommon, either.

I've had 3 double this year, all about a week or so after their first clutches hatched. I wasn't planning on second clutches and didn't rebreed, so mostly slugs for me.

I'd say it's about a week or so for the eggs to start hatching , and she has already shed her skin, I'm assuming it's a pre-lay shed so, I'm guesing it should be about the same time then for her to double clutch. I've had her in her nest box the last couple of days and she's not left it any at all accept for when I took her out to try and feed her yesturday but she went right back into the nest box when she was done. I'll just keep a close eye on her. Thanks for all the replies.

It's on day 53 for 12 or the eggs and day 52 for 7 of the eggs. So yeah, at temps of 82F I'd say I've got about 7 or so days left before the first clutch starts to pip, she might lay her eggs before then I'd say. I know with her first clutch she laid them exactly 7 days after her pre-lay shed. And it's on day 7 today since she shed. So any day now I hope she does alright with them. They probably will all be slugs since I've not put her in with a male since she mated the first time around which was on April 20-22 I think. So yeah it's been around 70-80 days since she was actually with a male.

It looks as though Rose maybe starting to lay her second batch of eggs. She's re-arranged her nest box medium/bedding to one end of the container and has a bare area to lay her eggs in now. That's what she did for her first clutch as well so I'm guessing it should probably happen sometime later today/tonight. I checked on her when I got up a few minutes ago and that's how I found her, she didn't have any laid eggs yet. I'm guessing she will do it when I am working tonight which is what always happens to me for some reason. I've also checked on her first clutch of eggs, but do not see any evidence of them starting to pip. It's kinda early still for them I think, since it's only day 53 for 7 of them and day 54 for 12 of the eggs.

In the case of my lav het lava ph stripe blood, before the 1st clutch hatched without a shed and in the water dish...

Wow, that's a bummer. I hope she's got a few fertile eggs in this second clutch...does that ever happen if you don't put them in with a male snake after the first initial mating? Or do they all come out as slugs usually?

I didn't know it could happen that quickly after the first clutch, goodness. Well this would be 54 days after, well maybe more since she hasn't actually laid them yet like I thought she was going to. I came home with no eggs in the nest box, and no pips yet of the first clutch, altough I already knew that was probably not going to happen, not this soon....oh, well. I sure am getting impatient with this first clutch. I wish I had another hobby or activity I could do for another probably week or so so time would go faster for me...lol. No, really, my nerves are on such edge right now. Not knowing what they are going to turn out to be and if they are going to be alright when they hatch and if they are going to be problems eating etc...

The thing that actually is worrying me the most is if mommy snake is going to be alright after laying this second clutch or not...I sure hope she is.

I've been laying awake in bed for a few hours now, not being able to sleep. I usually sleep in pretty late cause I work nights and after working I can never just go straight to bed...I usually go to bed not long before the sun comes up sometimes after, but anyway...I'm up now and it's 3:02 pm. When I woke up I checked on Rose right away to see if she was laying her second clutch, and she finally is! She's just started and was in the middle of laying her first one when I peeked in the nest box with a flash light so it's possible it might be a good egg at least what I saw of it looked like it was a good one, not a slug...I know she's got at least 7 or 8 in her maybe more so I will check on her periodically the rest of today to see how she is doing. I'm soooooo excited, cause I'm thinking it means that her first clutch should be hatching or starting to hatch very soon. Yeppeeee!

Yeah, well if any of these eggs are good ones, I don't know where I'm going to put them, the incubator isn't big enough for another container, and the one container is full of her first clutch....? And I'm all out of medium/substrate to use for padding around the eggs...I'll figure something out.

Well, the last time I checked on Rose she had laid 5, I think one of them might be fertile and the other 4 slugs but I'm going to incubate them all just in case... She is still laying more and it's been about 45 min to hour since the last time I checked on her. I put the first 5 in the incubator already. I got one of my smaller containers and put the rest of what I had of the nesting medium/material in it, there wasn't much left of it but anyhu, I used what I had and soaked it with warm water, not to much and squeezed it into the incubator next to her other container full of eggs. Mind you I did all this in a dark bedroom with my boyfriend still sleeping. He didn't get to bed until around noon time today so he's exausted. I will go in there one more time in a few minutes from now and check on her again to see how many more she's laid.

Rose laid 10 total eggs today and seems to be done now, with no bumps left in her. 5 of the 10 look like they might actually be viable/fertile so , like I mentioned earlier I'm going to incubate all of them just in case. Fwww... that part is over with. Now it's more waiting for the first clutch to hatch. Yepeee...! :)
