Sailor: Thoroughbred Progression

Hallie

SNOW!!!!
Well, as many of you already know, I got a new horse on Saturday. My parents dragged me to a livestock auction (we go for the tack auction....we're always in need of buckets, lead ropes, salt blocks, etc.) in a nearby town. While we were there, we got a phone call from a fellow horse person letting us know that there were two thoroughbred mares that she was familiar with being auctioned there (a mutual friend was also there and gave her a heads up, as they had wanted these horses a few months back) and that we should go take a look at them. So, we went down to the barn to check them out.

I fell in love with one of them immediately, there was a connection there. I could feel her 'talking' to me when I looked at her. Luckily, she was really well put together and appeared to be sound. For an ex-racehorse, she has very clean legs and wonderful feet, so I'm really optimistic that she'll end up as a really nice event horse. She's also unbelievably sweet and very level headed for an OTTB.

Long story short....I ended up with two thoroughbred mares, a bay and a chestnut. The friend who had called us really wanted the bay, so she was sold to her on Monday. The chestnut will be my project for the upcoming year...I hope my warmblood and my pony don't get too jealous...

So, meet Sailor, a 4 year old off-the-track thoroughbred mare. I managed to read her tattoo and get some info on her. 'Sailovertheline' was born May 8, 2005 on a farm in Florida, had a short (but slightly successful) race career, winning almost $49,000, and hasn't raced since March of this year. As you can see, she is very underweight, which is why this will be her progression thread. :) I'm hoping to get the weight back on her and potentially get on her in late December (depending on whether we can get her to a farm with an indoor arena...we have a pending plan to take 5 of our horses, but there are still some details to be worked out).

I apologize for the quality of the photos, the light is pretty bad in the barn...I'll get some outside shots of her someday soon. :)

I'll be updating her thread every few weeks with her weight gain progress. :D

Aww, he's beautiful! I just love TBs! I'm sure she'll only become more beautiful in your care! :}

And yay, kitten-bonus!

She is lovely Hallie. I am sure she will thrive under your care!
Would love to see pics of some of your other horses too when you have time!!

Thank you! And I thought the kitten picture was adorable. He was playing with Sailor's lead for about 5 minutes and all she did was look down at him as if she was smiling. It was a very nice moment. :)

Thanks Katie! And sure thing!! I'll get some together one of these days for you.

Dang your about 4 hours away from where I will be for Christmas and New Years. IF you were closer I was going to see if you would let me come out and get horse time. I will be going 2 week, 2 WEEKS, without horses. Lets hope I dont end up in jail.

 They are super stress relievers aren't they? I can't imagine what life would be like without them. I, for one, would be a much crankier person than I already am! ;)

There would be a lot of dead people if I did not have them that is for sure. When I get pissed off I go to the barn. When I get upset I go to the barn. When humans fail me. I go to the barn. I can rant and rave and care on all day long and the horses wont care of say a word of anything I said to anyone else and I feel so much better. Emmy is the best she will look at you while you are talking and when you are done she will walk away. Its strange but nice that she acts like she is listening.

Ya'll need to get some variety in that barn. All your horses look the same, minus Nuge and Vikki :) oh I love the Vic-tor!

She does kinda look like Lucy, doesn't she? And Nicky doesn't look like anyone! Sonny, Ike, and Chaz all look alike though...bay with 4 socks....

She is absolutly stunning Hallie. Any updates on her for this month?

Thanks Elle! I don't have any new photos, but I'll try to get some.

She is looking fantastic! She's gained probably 75-100 pounds since bringing her home and is looking much healthier. Her ribs don't stick out much anymore and her butt and chest have filled out a bit. :)
