Serpent in the Sky

neondragon

Cyber Dragon
A sketch for my holiday contest entry. (artistic category, of course) this will be a winter scene when I paint it. A snow making snow, or a blizzard creating a blizzard... *shrug* I havn't decided whether I want patterning on this or not, thus it's morph is still up in the air until it goes through the coloring grind. Floating snakes? Yeah, I had one too many. J/K Hey, I figure if you're gonna go and draw something, you might as well draw something that you can't take a picture of. Ruins the point elsewise.

I'll update this topic with progress as I go. For now, just the sketch.

looks like the chinese dragons who float in the clouds and make rain or snow. it's beautifully done, neodragon. i've tried to sketch my snake but it always turns out like a tree branch.

Kind of made me think of Kukulcan or Quetzalcoatl, the serpent god of the Mayas and Aztecs... very talented drawing there!

If I had that artistic talent, I wouldn't need photoshop. I can tell that I'm going to have some pretty stiff competition in my own category now! hmmmmmmm. That third pic of mine will definately have to go into production now. Hopefully it works out well.......

Have you checked with Connie Hurley to make sure that paintings are acceptable in the photo contest? I'd hate to see you do all that work and not be able to enter it. Of course, I'd love to see you do all that work, period. That is an amazing sketch. I can't wait to see it painted. It would make a great tattoo.

I wanted to do a corn snake painting anyway, so even if it is disqualified, it will not be a waste. I love doing this stuff. It did say in the art category that Photoshop is allowed, which is what I do all my painting in... but I must admit I half expect to be disqualified simply because there was no photo as a base, or even a point of refrence.

This is more for the fun of it then for the prize. (Hey, if I win: bonus! I sure as heck won't turn down a pretty snake or useful supplies! If not, I've still got a neat wallpaper for my desktop and something pretty to share on my website. It's win/win.)

Most of the flat colors, and a tiny bit of shading. Aside from that fact that I'm completely trashing scale structure, I think I like it so far...

I think it will be very interesting to see how this progresses. Most people never get to see how a work of art develops.

Do you scan the original sketch or upload a digital of it, make a file then "paint" it using PhotoShop?

I have no familiarity with the digital medium for creative art. My experience is with traditional pigments and dyes on actual fabric/paper. The process and potential of digital "painting" is very intriguing. It must inherently have aspects unique to the medium.

I'd like to investigate this. But, as a novice, any initial software I invest in has to have broad application. If you were to recommend a program for this, is PhotoShop your first choice?

You can check out more of their work at deviant art. Actually we have a pretty talented artist among us

I dig this whole picture. I like the whispy clouds. I think it would be awsome to through in some orangey sunset colors in them clouds.

I think it would be neat if there were a snake art thread :D I'm sure there's lots of talented people here. Could be fun.
