SHOW ME YOUR VIV'S

Whoops! o_O I somehow missed the shot from the cool side... My bad.

Beautiful vivs, btw, everyone. Because of this topic, I'm planning to get a hold of some vines and plants the next time we get out of town. x)

Here's my babies enclosures thus far:

The first 2 are 10 gallon tanks, the third enclosure my husband made me a month ago, and the fourth and fifth pics are of the multi-unit enclosure he is working on right now.

I don't personally, but I believe that you can. I know PetsMart and Petco both sell live plants for vivariums, both tropical and desert for less than $3.00 a piece. I have also researched a website that makes living vivariums for reptiles. You of course need to make sure that the plants you use are not toxic to the reptile you keep and that neither will inhibit the other by keeping them together.

Check this website out: http://www.bamareptiles.com

If you have any other questions, feel free to give me a shout!!

Thanks :) I have been digging around for the last couple of days, trying to find some arid plants that would be non toxic to Corns. I found a list on Anapsid (no surprise there, she has everything lol) but it was in scientific nomenclature, and I was having a hard time finding common names (not everyone uses the same ones, hence the use of SN) or suppliers.

I am in the middle of a viv build, I am creating my first DIY background from polystyrene, finished with tile grout. I have two hides built into it, and an extensive tunnel, and now I am working on the rock detail and ledges. I have been photographing my process, and I will post a thread of it when I am finished.

I really prefer my vivs to be as natural as possible. I am building flower pot hiders into my back ground also, so that the pots can be removed when the viv is cleaned, and the back ground is in three easily removable pieces attached to the back of the tank with velcro. That way I can remove it and flush it out if the snakes eliminate in it.

I am new to Corns, I have had mine since Friday :) I still have a lot to learn.

Kristina

That sounds really great, you done some great thinking. You sound alot like myself. I just got my first corn this last July and by 10:30 this morning I will have a total of 24. You should check out my account at Reptilegeeks and start one yourself if you haven't already it is an awesome place to go for advice and friends also.

Sounds like you are going in the right direction though and if you ever need anything just let me know, I'd be happy to help you with whatever I can and if I don't know, we can find someone who does and learn together!!!

Here is Somoa's viv. :]

picture.php

I built the little jungle gym myself out of driftwood I found on the beach (cooked in the oven for a bit as well), as well as the added toilet paper roll (which she sleeps in a lot) and the fake plants. The substrate is coconut husk and her two hides are the coconut and the large shell that I also found on the beach and cleaned. You can't see it, but theres a probe thermometer on the heating pad as well as an overhead light which emits a good amount of heat to keep both the air temperature and ground temperature on the hot side between 80 and 85 degrees.

spoiled snake..

This thread needs to be Rezzed from the dead! I think it is an asset to all new herpers who want some ideas... For some of us we have seen barely more than the petstore tanks. Very nice thread and thank you to all who shared!

Hope you all like.

The water bowl is in the bottom right corner, the edge of it is just on shot in the first pic, its very small but so is smoo, im not sure on what size water bowl they need for what size snake but i'd rather have one too small that she can just fit in than one that she might drown in =) let me know if you think it should be bigger(can upload a picture of the bowl if you like.

190 liters (50 gallons) plywood terrarium with sliding glass doors. The picture was taken when Matami temporarily lived in it as her viv had just been ordered and not delivered yet.

640 liters (170 gallons) whole glass terrarium. Dimensions 80cm*80cm*100cm. The interior decorations still under construction. I'm waiting for the summer and better weather to build stuff in our garage.

Juveniles live in Smart Store boxes. 30 liters (8 gallons) or 50 liters (13 gallons).

Since these pics were taken I've started to use peat as their bedding. I find it much more comfortable, natural and "wallet-friendly". :D

I also have smaller boxes for the hatchlings, but no pictures of them.

Just wanted to bump this thread since it's been so helpful for ideas! Perhaps a mod could sticky it, since I see a lot of requests for pictures of vivs from those of us just starting out. Pretty please?

This is a great thread... It's wonderful for all of us to get more creative ideas, and I'm happy to see that everyone without exception is providing so well for their snakes!
