Sigyn the Normal

Another Update

Sigyn is now growing a lot finally. She stayed so tiny for so long I was getting worried. She is now around 9 months old and weighs 41 grams. I haven't measured her yet. Her head is in between baby and adult. It's a funny looking stage. I think she is also going through an ugly phase but I don't think it will last. I believe her colors will change more and she will turn out very pretty.

All her orange has lightened up to a yellow color. Her red saddles have more of a brown hue to them. Her white head has continued to change from orange to the same yellow as her body. It isn't completely filled in. I also think it will fill in more as she grows. Her belly has also gotten lighter and is more yellow and orange. Her checks are still butterscotch in color though.

Here are the pictures. I did have her on a blue sheet but it made her look way too bright red like an amel lol! So I put her on brown which made her turn out closer to her original colors. :D

Happy Hatchday!

Sigyn is now a year old and my ugly duckling is still transforming. If you look at the very first picture I posed of her you will see that the markings on her head and face were white. The first half of her body was also white and turned orange as you got near the tail.

Now nearly all her white has turned orange and her white belly is a pale yellow.

Now for the pictures!

In this one you can see the darker orange on her lower belly.

A better look at her pattern. Don't mind the propane tanks in the back lol.

A full body shot in the shade.

Looking at the camera. You can see some of the yellow upper belly.

A picture of her funky head marking. In shade. She was getting upset with the bright sun.

Brought her back in the sun a little for an eye shot. I do love her eyes!

She's gorgeous!:) What a great find from a pet store! Did they sell her to you as a normal? If so, you sure got lucky!

Actually they didn't have her labeled as anything. Just a corn snake. I actually think she is hypo. She didn't look like a normal hatcling. She's always been orangy.

Well she looks like she definitely could be a Hypo to me, from some of the pics I have seen of Hypos - but I'm no expert, of course. Whatever she is - she is beautiful!:)

Forgot to mention that her lower half always looks like she is in shed or has stuck shed. Her lower half also has most of the purple/gray looking borders. She is my strangling hypo or not.

Well I think "strange" is better than "typical", IMO - I love anything unique, even if it's not a "high end" morph.

She does not look like the typical Hypo A to me. She looks like a mix of sunkissed and ultramel, the eyes are confusing too. Will be fun to find out what she is if you plan to breed her!

Wow, she has definitely grown up to be quite stunning!

I've never seen this thread before somehow, but from the second picture you posted, I suspected she looked rather Hypo.

Now it looks much more obvious! She has gun metal grey borders, her belly checkers aren't black, and her chin makings are very very faint. Another way to check to see if she's Hypo or not is to look at her shed.

A Hypo's shed will not have melanin on it, and while it may be slightly yellowed or off white, it will be much different from a non Hypo's. A non Hypo's shed will be much darker, with traces of melanin on it so distinct you may even be able to make out the snake's pattern.

I also agree with Blutengel that something about that snake says Sunkissed to me. Perhaps she's het, or that's where her odd colorations are coming from.

Beautiful mystery!

Yes I agree with hypo. Her sheds are as clear as my snows. All except for a few little specks on the tip of the nose. Which like the top of her head has changed to a yellow color. It makes her look like she has freckles on her nose. :p

Today i checked the eyes of my ultramel, i was wrong, they look the same! I would not be surprised if it turned out to be ultramel.

Took her outside again this evening. She was rather spastic. She doesn't bite but she sure the heck doesn't like being held.

These were taken in a big bronze bowl so she couldn't get away:

After she calmed down a little I put her on a rock:

As she's gotten bigger I've noticed some saddles have white in the borders. I also notice that her yellow scales have orange speckles:

She sure looks different than when she was a baby!

She's so beautiful! This is the first I've seen this thread, and those pics are great. I love her baby pics! Her head markings are really pretty.

I can't believe how bright she has gotten! She went from an ugly duckling and turned into a swan so to speak. I'm glad she didn't stay that weird yellow brown color lol.

I can't wait until a few years to breed her and see what she actually is! Also I'm not 100% sure on sex. I tried popping her as a baby and guessed female since nothing popped out. She still isn't big enough for me to probe. I bought a set of 12 probes and would you believe that the smallest one is just the right size for a full grown adult corn! That ticked me off. So I have to wait until she is another year or so bigger before I can probe her and make sure. Though it would be so much easier to test her if she were in fact a male.

Future mates inclue:
1 sunkissed ultra
1 sunkissed ultramel
1 sunkissed lava
1 sunkissed hypo

Depending on which I use first I can drop the sunkissed on the others. I do not think Sigyn is sunkissed but she may be het. Her head markings don't look like the sunkissed I've seen. But it does look like the het sunkissed.
