I was finally able to get a good measurement of my 9-10 month old Amel today. He is approximately 32 inches long. Is this large for this age? Of course, it is possible that he is older than the reptile store said he was, as I know for sure he was bred by someone else and sold to him.
 
I agree with Arson, that snake is abnormally large for a 9-10 month old. I have some large 2003's, but I don't think any of them are near that length.
 
so what is normal size then? i have an amel that jus turned 6 months old two days ago and he is about 24 inches.
 
Well, I thought that seemed large. I am assuming he is older than what the reptile store thought he was. Based on this size (32 inches) approximately what age would he be (if anyone can guess). Thanks!
 
.....by the way, I just wanted to add that I do not powerfeed him. He gets one adult mouse every 7-10 days. The reptile store was on a 7-day regimen with him, but I do not have any other feeding information other than that.
 
My amel is 1 year old and 31 inches. She is fed once a week as well. She certainly outsizes my Aztec that's only a few months younger but is only 22 inches long. She's also a better feeder, and is more mellow. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but she was certainly easier to handle.
 
do you just break out the tape measure in order to determine the length of your snakes, or do you photograph them with a ruler and use the snake measurer program?
 
Actually, my son and I measured him against a wall in our hallway that we are going to repaint. The snake loves to follow allong the wall in a straight line. So we just marked a pencil line at his head and tail and got a pretty accurate reading. I haven't done the other method you mentioned yet.
