Snails are as tough as old boots.

Here are a couple pics I took during her worst period. This was the absolute furthest she would emerge from her shell - she'd try and come out a little further and then sharply pull back, like something was uncomfortable. She was also creating a lot of mucus and drying out very fast, even though the humidiy was fine and I was bathing her regularly to keep her hydrated.

I've had people ask me how on earth I can tell when a snail gets sick, but it was VERY obvious that something was wrong by this point.

It breaks my heart when my pets are sick. My cats, and even my snakes can go to a vet, but a snail? It's really a do-it-yourself sort of thing. Mind you, if anyone knows of someone with knowledge of ailing snails, please let me know.

Hey Becks, if you ever decide to hatch another batch of eggs I'll take at least 50 ;)

Ha, thanks! If you wanted some specifically for whatever reason, I can always hold back the eggs for you. I won't ever hatch snails again unless someone particularly wants some.

I have LOADS of people wanting snails after seeing mine. It's insane... I could easily give away 50, if not more.

Oh can I ask, do both the snails lay eggs or do they chose a dominant sex and only one continues to lay eggs?

I think both snails CAN be fertilised, but more often than not only one of my snails lays eggs after mating. I think I've seen them both lay, maybe once.

The mating thing varies from species to species, so I'm not sure about other snails.
