Snake Bites

I have 5 snakes (2 Corns, 2 Kings and 1 Hognose) and last night I was bit by my King and it took me a good 20 minutes to get the little guy off, I was wondering if there is an easy method to get them off without hurting them or me (I'm asking this on a Cornsnake forum because I'm guessing that there bites are pretty much the same and I would like to know for future reference in case one of my Corns bites me)

Thanks

Dab Listerine around the snake's mouth. I would ONLY do this if the snake will not let go in a few minutes.

Generally, grabbing a camera and trying to take Bite Club photos causes them to release immediately.

You can try running him under room temp water, but sometimes that just makes them dig in!!

That was a feeding bite, by the way. Something you did made the snake think it should eat you. A defensive bite lasts a split second.

Yeah she normally gives me little nips from time to time, but I was changing her water in the middle of the night so I wasn't paying too much attention. I don't mind getting bitten as I would rather she does it as she is growing so I know what to expect instead of her suddenly biting me in 2 years time when she's fully grown.

If you'd been handling one of your other snakes before, or something that smells like one of your other snakes that could've been the reason, kings do it other snakes remember.

And the two tricks I've heard of are getting some of that high alcohol sanitizing hand gel and squirting a bit on their nose ( a bit risky if it gets in their mouths though )

OR a safer alternative, y'know those cans of compressed air you can buy for cleaning your keyboard? Spray a very VERY short burst of that at where they're biting, the stuff comes out ice cold which is why I say just a short burst. I don't know if its the cold or the pressure but it generally makes them let go. At least that's what I was told. (never been bitten though so can't say for sure)

cheers wowfood I had no idea how to upload the photo properly, I didn't touch any of my other snakes that night, she has just always been a pain in the arse giving me little nips when I am doing the simplest of tasks in her vivarium, although I do love her as she has such a big personality compared to my other lazy snakes. It's funny though how my first instinct was to take a decent picture instead of getting her off :p

SUPERB picture!
I hope I never get bit by Gaia, she's huge! And I know with pythons you need to be really careful to not rip out too many teeth, do you have to do the same thing with corns?

Yes, you can pull a corns teeth and damage their mouths if you are too rough trying to get one off. Corns rarely bite though and even more rarely hang on and chew. Most will let go on their own after a few seconds.

I get chewed on DAILY! Everything from baby Corns, to the occasional adult Boa or Woma. I've found uncoiling them and holding them suspended in air (hanging from your apendage) will get them to release. Just make sure you catch them!

Someone said his boa releases immediately when you squeeze it's tail. No idea for the corns, so far I've managed not to get bit :D

So far I've had my Albino Cal King and my Woma give me feeding bites (unfortunately no Bite-Club Photos because my mother hogs the camera because she usually has puppies, and she would NEVER let me into the puppy room with a snake hanging onto me LOL)

Now.. that I am saying this, next time I have a cling-on my trick WON'T work.. but whilst knocking on wood, a regular misting purpose squirt bottle set JUST a little more concentrated then "mist" with normal room temp water sprayed around the mouth has been 100% successful in making them both let go with the quickness.
