Snake names

I'm the worst person to ask this question, because I agonize over giving my pets the most meaningful names possible. I will spend weeks researching before I pick up my snake so that I just might have the right name when it gets here! Usually my names reference mythology/religion/the occult, because that's the kind of weird stuff I'm into.

My latest is my Woma, Zephyr. I study astrology and I have his birth chart. He's a Gemini Sun and a Sagittarius Moon. He traveled all the way from the west end of the country by plane to be my pet, and travel is a Gemini/Sagittarius theme. Gemini is an Air sign and to have Sun in Gemini, you must be born in the Spring. Zephyr is the Greek god of the west wind (my snake came from the west by air) and the gentlest of the wind gods, representing the winds of Spring. So I decided it was fitting, and thus far Zephyr has not voiced any objections to his name.

Another really important thing to remember when naming pets is that they are going to end up with nicknames/short forms. Consider what unfortunate nicknames might attach themselves to your beloved pet. When my garter snake was on hold at the pet store, I spent hours trying to think of a good name for him. I settled on Caduceus, the staff of Hermes with the twin snakes wrapped around it. I told my boyfriend and he immediately said "Like, Ca-DOUCHE-us?" Not wanting my snake to be haunted by that label for the entirety of his mortal existence, I settled on getting my mother to name him.

That was so funny!

Speaking of nicknames, when I brought Sienna home but had not named her yet (I can't name my snakes til I get to know their personalities), my husband jokingly called her Eggbert. (We technically don't know her sex, but I'm guessing female.) I was motivated to name her so Eggbert didn't stick, but I have to admit it was funny.

I haven't named snake #2 yet, since I haven't gotten to hold him yet, but for right now he's Lil Bit. He's so little. And cute.

We don't know the sex of any of our 3 corns so they all had to be gender neutral names.

The first one is Wynne, our snow corn. 'Her' name means 'white' or 'fair' which seemed appropriate. Plus we get to call her Wynner (winner:p).

We more recently acquired two babies from the same clutch. The first one we called Doa because 'she' is a ghost corn. Get it? D.O.A. Lol

And 'her' sibling is an anery we called Dayo, which basically means 'happy arrival' and totally reminds me of a scene from Beetlejuice:D For some reason we usually refer to this one as a boy and the other two as girls even though we really have no idea what they are...

My snake names are as follows :

Zeus : Male striped anery with the yellow on his neck(thunder clouds and a lightning bolt snake)
Aston : Male striped Amel (saw an orange Aston Martin)
Odin : Male Pewter. I like mythology and this one just seemed to fit his coloring.
Lillith : Female bloodred (A demon in Jewish mythology and also Adam's first wife, in horror a lot and i thought fitting for a "bloodred")
Bellona : Female lavender bloodred (wife name this one, no idea why)
Amelia : Female normal (wife named again, no clue why)

Other pets :
Shiner : male mutt dog (found him at the pound and he drank Shiner Bock that I spilled on the floor the day I brought him home)
Brandy : female border collie (Brandy came on the radio and she started howling so she got the name)
Lucie : female chihuahua (wife named her, no idea again)

Pandora(Dora) : female black cat(My first cat and I wanted to write on the litter box "Pandora's Box, DO NOT OPEN!" so I named her Pandora and call her Dora)
Ares : Male grey tabby(he is ginormous and I thought he would be a war cat but he is a pansy. Kind of like huge guys being called Tiny)
Chloe : Female calico(wife named her, no idea)
Einstein : Male white kitty(His head fur was all kinds of frizzy as a kitten and he looked like Einstein)
Athena : Insane tortie kitty (she is just insane and is super smart so she got Athena, goddess of wisdom)

Nala : female ferret(daughter named her after Lion King female lion)
Stitch : male ferret(no idea where this came from, it just stuck)

Oh wow where do I start?

My very first baby that started it all.

Gynie - A little immature I know, but she is pink (snow) with a "V" on her head.

Auger - The marking on his head looks like an Auger drill bit

Rudy - Amel that I swore was a girl so I called her Ruby until I probed him.

Boo - Ghost, Again not very funny but I liked it and he was my first Ghost

Mystery - Not sure what she is. She doesn't look the same as her anery sister's. She has pinky/purple tones down her sides. Was calling her Miss and I had planned on naming a hatchling that I bought from Dave Harms but I liked the name that he gave that hatchling better and I thought Mystery fit this hatchling better.

Prudence - Dave Harms hatchling

Steel - Anery Hateling, with nerves of Steel

Snakey - wild caught king that came up in our irrigation

Foxy - Marking on head looks like Fox racing logo

Stitch : male ferret(no idea where this came from, it just stuck)

Stitch is probably from the movie Lilo and Stitch :D.

Eureeka- butter

Nieve- snow(snow in spanish)

Alarick- anery

Slim jim- underwieght rescue

Cherry- amel stripe

I'm having a hard time naming my newest snake. I like the name to "click" for me and then I know it's right. She's an amel. So far, I've pondered: flame, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, persimmon and glow. Nothing feels right. I guess I'll figure it out eventually.

That is what happened to me and Mystery. I just kept calling her Miss because I couldn't come up with a name. And when I didn't use Mystery for the other snake. It "clicked" who is a bigger mystery than Miss.
