Snakes living with other pets?

Not to put out more redundant information, but I have two dogs, two teenage boys, and my snake, Fuzzy.

The boys, which are probably the most hyper of the set, think I'm nuts for having a snake, so they're not an issue.

The two dogs, both -zoos (intentional spelling) are pretty much slugs. Molly disappears when Fuzzy is out, and couldn't care less when he's in his cage. Max, who sleeps approximately 23 3/4 hours a day, will sniff at Fuzzy occasionally when I have him out, and then go back to sleep.

I think it's up to the individual animals, both snake and other pets. I'm cautious when they're close together, but not really worried about them. Yours may be different.

2 cats, 2 dogs, 6 corn snakes here.

One cat(Bandit) tries to protect the snakes from the other cat(Fluffy), if Bandit sees Fluffy near a snake viv she gets between Fluffy and the viv and chases her away. This happened so often with the first snake we had( a w/c garter that Fluffy now does not go near the vivs). When the snakes are out, if they are small snakes, Fluffy tries to get them to kill them, she hunts and kills any small moving thing. The big snake Fluffy is scared of.

The one dog, Wicket is blind, so he is of no concern, most of the time he really has essentially no concept they are here, occasionally when they are out you will see him sniff the air as he knows there is "something" out there but that is it. Niko on the other hand shows far to much interest and his behavior turns to "give it to me so I can play with it, Please mom" so he is kept away when they are out. If they are in the vivs he pays no mind to them.

It can easily be done, all 6 of my snakes come out at least 2-4 times a week for 15-60 min or longer at a time. No problems here.

ya I can attest to the whole cat play-toy mentality.
for the first couple of weeks the cat payed no attention at all to the snake.. but that has changed and when the snake is out she is all over the place trying to get near. I have somewhat of a influence over her so she stays at a distance, but shes always testing.. Last night I tried a controlled meeting of the two and she did well for a few minutes until she tried batting at sidle.

needless to say that will be the end of the cat getting close again.

Dogs and cats are more dangerous to snakes than are snake for them. Except if you have a big hungry boa lol

Often I see cats hunting snakes and 'play' with them. cats enjoy it, snakes not so much...

How big is your dog?
Adult snake eats from 20-30g mice. Is your dog is in this range of weight? lol Any was I will not be concerned for the dog.

keep them apart... Snakes eat animals and animals kill snakes....
Sometimes they ignore each other but I wouldn't chance it....
A corn will not eat a dog but a dog or cat may injure your corn...
Pet hairs are not a worry.....

I'm thinking about getting a baby corn snake. My family has a fat lazy cat, a medium sized dog and we are thinking about getting a kitten. Would the corn snake cause problems with the cats and dog? My families dog is very curious. I would put a lock on the cage and probably end up putting the snake in the closet (with the same setup, just out of the way.)
All advice is appreciated.

I have 3 dogs, 2 cats and 6 snakes. One of my cats killed my crested gecko (long story) so...after that I've taken extra precautions to protect my snakes. Said cat is now older and much fatter but he still likes to "watch cat tv" and at this point just sits and watches the snakes if they are out and makes no attempt to bother them. I don't allow my snakes to be in the same vicinity of the cats when they are out being handled. Common sense is a big factor here...

I live with 6 snakes 3 dogs and a ferret. Obviously the biggest concern is to make sure the ferret NEVER gets close to the snakes as its in his weasel nature to kill snakes. I'll handle my smaller snakes around my dogs but not one that could do any damage if he bit me because I always notice they get that hungry look when they pick up the scent of another mamal.

On a serious note, a baby cornsnake - or ANY age corn, for that matter - will be absolutely fine in the same house or pad with any of the above-mentioned pets, as long as precautions are taken to ensure that they NEVER meet each other. It only takes ONE second in a situation that is even supervised between animals that were never meant to coexist for a tragedy to occur should those animals come face-to-face.

Just THINK about what you're asking and you might understand why you might get a stupid answer, after all, it's not rocket surgery. . .er, uh. . .you know what I mean. (I HOPE!) :poke:
