Solace - Opal stripe 2014

albertagirl

Sharan
I picked Solace up today from Terri with 5 Star Serpents, who is the same awesome breeder I got my ultramel anery and cinder from. He's gorgeous in person! Just a tiny guy still, he has some catching up to do in size, but he's SO pink!

I wanted him last year, but couldn't decide between an opal or a blizzard, so I somehow ended up going home with a ghost last year instead. But when he was still available this year I just couldn't say no, especially after I saw how colorful he had gotten!

I'll start you off with the pictures I stole off of facebook of his parents, and the picture Terri sent me last week, and then post a couple of pictures I took today when I got him home.

His dad, opal motley.

These pictures were taken quickly before I settled him in to relax after his long drive home. They aren't awesome, but hopefully they're good enough to get some idea of his color. The first two are taken outside, in a deli cup with the lid on. The last two are taken indoors by the window, but with the lid off. Both are fairly cloudy daylight. I love the little white stripe down his nose.

Lol!! Yes Tom is a super villain but how can I not just love all over him?? Lol
I'm sure that your new beauty is going to be just perfect.

Solace ate his first meal with me today.
I figured at his age he should know what to do with food, and he'd been so calm when I brought him home, I decided two days was long enough to settle in before eating. Apparently I was not quite right about that. Once I moved the food into his hide (after about 30 minutes of letting him think about it), he took it immediately. It wasn't a big ordeal, just not quite as simple as I was expecting. I'm glad to have gotten a meal into him, and now I'll let him digest and finish settling in for a few days.

I also forgot to mention previously, I weighed him when I brought him home and he's 30 grams. Just a little guy.

white/pink snake shedding???

So I had Solace out the other day and I thought... is that what his eyes look like or are they just a little cloudy? Turns out, having a pinkish/whitish snake with light pink eyes means I have NO IDEA how to tell if he's blue! At least my ghost has dark eyes! Anyway, he hasn't been out of his hide in 3 days, so I'm pretty sure he's going to shed for me. I'm glad I fed him so quickly, it means I got two meals into him before he has to miss one now. As cute as they are when they're little, I have realized that I really enjoy them more when they get a little more size on them.

I also noticed a little bump on his back, about halfway down, and ran my thumb down his spine a couple of times feeling it. I think he might have the tiniest little kink. I'll try to get some good pictures of him after he sheds and see if anyone can confirm. Not that it's a problem, he's clearly healthy otherwise, and I had no intentions of breeding him. Just an interesting factoid about my earthworm.

He sounds awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing Solace progress. This most recent shed mine didn't eat for 10 days and it was hard for me to go that long. I think it's harder on us than it is on them. I think they are like kids. You will look back in a year and wonder at how fast he went from worm to "teenager"!

Solace is growing well, almost caught up to Meridian who is almost exactly the same age. He is now 2'11", and I think 160 grams. (I do keep track, but I'm too lazy to go downstairs and check. :sidestep: ) He is super laid back and easy going. He's never any trouble at all, and is another one I can hand to any kid or snake-newbie and not worry about anything. He has a great temperament. I love love love him.

Now that he's not translucent anymore, he looks less like an earthworm and more like a proper pink snake. :roflmao: Here are a couple of pictures that show his colors quite well. These were taken in January before he turned fully opaque.

And here are a few pictures of him from April, where he is fully opaque now. His whites are actually white, and any pink is from actual pink, not just from light shining through him. Haha.

Ooh I just found out that Solace's sire, pictured at the very beginning of this thread, is for sale. **WANT** He's an opal motley.

I really need to find a mommy or a husband who can say no to me! I'm terrible at saying no to myself!!

Still playing catch up here. Solace is beautiful. I especially like the pictures with the painted rock. So sweet!

2017 update

Solace is now all caught up in size. He's my biggest after Ripley (my overweight ultramel anery). He's 430g and 4'. He's holding on to his pink coloration, which is great! I've read that opals can sometimes fade to white after a few years, but so far I think he's as pink as ever. Of course it is the HARDEST color to get an accurate picture of, but here is my best effort.

Solace is still a sweet, sweet natured boy. He hangs out on a shelf in his cage 90% of the time, so he's always visible which is great! Definitely another favorite, this one.

I'm also happy to report that although I still don't see any kind of visual difference when he goes blue, I've gotten fairly accurate at predicting his blue phase by observing his behavior, and by how his skin feels. Makes me feel like I kinda know what I'm doing. LOL

Somehow I only ended up with 4 decent pictures of him. I guess knowing what I'm doing stops at picture taking. :nope:
