Stacking Vivs?

Check out the one I'm saving up for:

Theres three vivariums there.

Note: its from the same website www.vivbuilder.co.uk

Intravenous - thanks very much! I like the 3-stack system a lot. It's expensive, but cheaper than buying 3 seperate vivs. If I bought 3 seperate 36" vivs it would cost me around £280. The 3-in-one stack viv would cost me £235 (plus posting, but there ya go.)

So now I have two options: either find some sturdy shelving, or buy a ready-made vivarium stack.

Thanks for the name, MomFor2Gifts! I've been searching for "Metro Shelving" and haven't come up trumps yet, but at least I have something to go by now.

Thanks a lot!

It's nice!
I personally would be inclined to think the top 2 vivs are too small for corns. But if you aren't keeping corns in them, it will be great! That's the only reason I wouldn't go for something like that, the space.

I think I might start saving for the 3-stack viv, unless I can find these elusive metal shelves.

One question, how would you heat those stacked vivs? There doesn't seem to be any way to get a heatmat under the tanks :shrugs:

It would be exactly the same problem if you bought any of the hobyist ones...you have to put the heat mat inside the viv. Habistat heat mats are suitable for this.

The vivarium i showed you will be 6 foot long. That means that the smaller ones will be 3 foot long each. It should be big enough (the one I showed you is just the model shape, i will specify my own lengths :) )

Oh, I see... okay :)

So if you put the mat inside, how would you protect the snake from the direct heat? I don't think newspaper/substrate would be enough as they could get underneath...

I've been trying to read up on all of this because I'm going to be faced with exactly the same problems!

From what I can tell you just put the heat mat in as normal and tape a ceramic tile on top of it...this will help disperse the heat and the tape will stop the snake getting underneath. You could then (and probably should) use a thermostat with a probe on top of the tile to control the temperature of the mat.

I guess that would work... but then the tank would be uneven :grin01:

This is really the only problem for me, else I would definetly be going for that stacked viv setup.

well it wouldnt be on the outside of the viv so it wouldnt lie unevenly. And you could make the substrate level inside the tank even so even that wouldnt lie unevenly...and if its uneven weight you're worried about then just alternate what side you put the heat mat on

No, I know it would be inside the tank - I meant having a mat and a ceramic tile on the bottom would mean that the newspaper/towels/ whatever substrate you use would slope up at one end. LOL. It's all right, I wasn't being too serious about that.

Okies, I was just assuming aspen would be the substrate, which would mean you could make an even substrate. If you're going to the bother of getting a nice stack of vivs you might as well go all out with the substrate and decorations too :p . You could make it a nice display viv stack.

Yeah, I will probably use aspen for my first snakes, so long as it doesn't get too expensive. Lol, true, I do plan to make them look as pretty as possible. I have to integrate the tanks in to my bedroom and I spend a lot of time there, so I'd like them to look as attractive and natural as I can afford.

Likewise...I don't have any snakes yet, but when I do I'll be putting that monster (it'll be about 6 foot long by about 7 foot tall!!) in my bedroom. The two smaller vivs are going to be for snakes. The 6 foot one will be for a bearded dragon :crazy02:

Wow, that would never fit in my room, lol. We've already have to shuffle everything around to make room for a single 36", LOL... which is why I desperately need to be able to stack my vivs. I just can't fit 2 in side by side.

Cool, a bearded dragon? They are really cute.

a ceramic tile ontop of the uth works a wonder stops the snake getting on the actuall uth but lets the tile get warm so u have a warm basking spot aswell
