Stay safe other East Coast friends!

Hope everyone stays safe and as dry as possible this weekend as Irene bears it's ugly side. We've battened down the hatches. Have you? Good luck everyone!

I am praying for everyone on the East Coast--having lived through Hurricane Ike I've seen how bad it can be--I'm also worried about my brother & his family that live on the Marine base is Camp Legeune,North Carolina.

I was supposed to attend a crab feast with my family in Paoli Pa. Seems like I might be staying home. Mother Nature is about to have a really bad hair day!

They just said on the news that most New Yorkers are giving this storm the brush off. I hope the news reporter is wrong! I was raised in De. 2 miles from the coast. I know what "battening down the hatches" means!

Looks like that fresh new round bale we just bought for the horses is gonna get kinda wet!

Stay safe and stay dry everyone!

Devon

Yeah, not looking good. Glad Florida dodged this bullet, but sure wish Irene had just swung out into the Atlantic altogether.

How long has it been since the mid atlantic area had a major hurricane make landfall?

I can remember as a kid going to Ocean City one year and not being able to swim because of all the rubble in the water from a recent hurricane. Not sure when that was, however.....

I'm sad I won't be home for this...I'll be up in NY(Syracuse)but it will be interesting to see what happened when I come back on Tuesday.
I hope everyone here stays safe and as dry as possible!

Rich, we haven't had one I think since 2005. Hurricane Isabelle came ashore as a tropical storm in 2003 and caused some serious flooding. It's hard to tell exactly what will happen, but we'll see.

My husband took our step son off on a "man vacation"--a bonding time for the two of them. I am SO going to tease him that while he was gone, I had to deal with TWO natural disasters--our recent earthquake and now Irene. ;) Planning to bring everything in tonight and fill the bathtubs with water. Thar she blows!

It looks like they have downgraded Irene to being a category 1 by the time it makes landfall, so hopefully it won't be too damaging.

I'm hoping it will downgrade..'cuz what I have noticed is people are saying 'it's just a cat 2' like it's no big deal---when Ike hit it was 'only' a 2 & the damage to this area was truly mind blowing. Also,so many people without power,we lived for almost 2 weeks without power. the stores were all closed until they could get power back on,so you couldn't just run down & get anything you didn't stock up on. I just hope it continues to weaken.-speaking from experience--even a storm that is only a cat 2 is nothing to laugh at. .....on another note-I'm happy & relieved that my brother's family evacuated :)

We are in Cape May county and we are not evacuating so hopefully it will down grade. Getting gas around here was crazy, lines down the streets and most of the stations are out of gas. I went to work today and brought home our 2 turtles and our bandtail puffer because they are right on the water in Cape May and I was afraid of what may happen to them.

Pal-O-Mine, I wish! Hope everyone is doing okay so far. We are okay except my hurricane Isabelle rescue cat was accidentally locked out all night last night in tropical storm conditions. That boy was so drenched and scared when he came in.

I'm in Bronx NY, I'm right off the eastchester sound which is connected to the Long island sound. If you seen on the news the maps of where it is going to hit in NY I'm inside the edge of the danger zone. I live on the top floor of my apt. bulding. For some reason I'm not woried about the hurricane. I have this inner feeling that I will be alright. The only thing I'm worried about is the windows breaking from the power of the wind or flying debri. Most of the people in my neighborhood are freaking out like it is going to be he end of the world.

I wish everyone and their families who is in the path of the storm be safe and hope there is only minimal damage if any to your belongings & property. For some reason Something happens to me and you dont hear back from me I wish all of you a good life !!!

Good Luck Everyone

I may go out in the storm to check out the park and waterfront. Me and 2 friends did the same thig during Hurracane Gloria in 85. If I go I will bring my camera.

It's eerily calm and quiet right now in central Suffolk county, Long Island. But we got the fridge stocked with beer and Mike's so we're all ready for the ride. Good luck to everyone who's getting up close and personal with Irene.

Yo Duff I'm right in Pelham Bay right off the Whitestone & throggs Neck bridges in the bronx. We been getting rain on & off. I cant waite for the storm to hit:D
