Staying on cool side

So my corn snake's been lying in the cool side (room temperature) of his/her tank for about 5 days straight now, and I'm wondering what this means. Thanks.
 
with a heating pad that stcks to the underneath of the glass cage. recently i changed the type of substrate, but i don't think that'd interfere.
 
How are you controling the heat though- with a thermostat or a rheostat? What are the actual warm side temps?
 
No I don't monitor the heat, but should I be concerned that the snake's been on the cool side for about 5 days straight?

And the snake's never done this before in the month and a half that I've had him/her.
 
I would be concerned-the heated side might be too hot. That might be why your snake has been on the cool side. Those heating pads can get into the 90s/ low 100s if not regulated by a thermostat/rheostat. You want to be careful with the heat-my first snake died when I used unregulated heat sources and they got too hot.

Just curious, what morph do you have?

Nope, it's coco fibre. I put it in at the beginning of the month. Before that, there was organic gravel in the cage, that the previous caretaker had put in. I'm actually wondering if the coco fibre makes the snake itchy.
 
You def need to get a thermostat to regulate the uth. It will probably get much too hot without being regulated.
 
As was already stated, you'll also want to get a probe indoor/outdoor thermometer to get an accurate temp reading.
 
For the most part my younger corn snakes stay on the cool end as well, but they do however use the warm end for digesting their food and when they are in the shedding process. Any time other then those though they are on the cool end. My temps are just around 95 on the warm sides although my digi temp reader/humidiy reader says that it's only 77-84 on the warm end its warmer because the gauge is kept up on the lower end of the back side of the glass so it's not totally accurate. You might have it too hot though on the warm end for yr snake. All corns are different. Good luck!
 
For the thermometer, the digital one I got from Radio Shack was 25 bucks but works great. You might be able to find a cheaper one though
 
At Petco they have ZooMed digital probe thermometers for about 8 bucks. We have two and they seem to work fine. My snake spends a lot of time on the cold side too, although he uses the warm side after he's eaten to digest. I think that's because his warm hide was too exposed, but I've fixed that and now he goes back and forth between the two sides. So, make sure both of your hides are nice and closed in, maybe with just a small hole for entry. You definitely want a thermostat; they have fairly inexpensive ones at Petco also.
