i have a 6m old and he is 1 and 1/2 foot long snake. i have had frankie for a month (and a bit). i have fed him twice with no problems but know he's refusing to take anything. we have tried several things slicing it, teasing him ect. i think he is losing alot of wait

he really doesnt want to do anything i get him out every night and he just sit there, even if you try and force him to move around.

anyways he hasnt eaten since the 14th feb should i be worried or shall i just let it be down to the spring thing with males, as were told he was a male when we brought him however another petshop has said it is very very hard to tell when they are so small.

temp is at around 75 hot side

please help

I don't like the sound of the not moving aound part. Temps should be low 80's too. What are you using to read the temps with??

im using the dial thing.

when hes out you can just leave him on your lap and he doesnt seem to run just sits i was wondering if he trying to get heat?

He may be using your lap as a heat source. As Lennycorn said, the warm side of the viv ought to be at least 80-85. 87 isn't bad for a young snake. If your snake did eat anything, he might very well regurge it because 75 all the time is generally considered too low for digestion.

I'd raise his temps, and leave him alone for 2-3 days. Then I'd try feeding him again.

How and what are you feeding him?

i feed him small pinkies with long tongs/ i also put him into a plastic box to feed. his last feed was 14 feb then shed on 17 feb i know some snakes dont like to feed straight after a shed but im now getting worried
im going to take him to the vets this week end if he does not eat this friday as i dont want to lose my first pride and joy.
thanks for your help

I would make sure your warm end is definitely in the 80's and there are hides on both ends of the cage so he's comfy. Also make sure the pinkie is thawed all the way and really warm. The lack of movement seems off though because I have never met a corn that will sit still. Mine acts like a wild man when we take him out, and my little girl is the same way. Maybe he does have some sort of infection and a vet visit could at least give you peace of mind even if thats not the case.

If it weren't for the lack of activity, I might think he's on a spring hunger strike. Even very young males can go off food when the season for love arrives. It sounds like your feeding practices are fine. I'd give him a few days with the warmer temps and see if his behaviour changes. If not, you may want to take him to a qualified herp vet who sees corns regularly. As Danielle said, it might give some peace of mind.

My thoughts exactly Caryl, if it were the 'spring effect' he would be MORE active rather than less.

x1derx I would be as worried as you are if he is visibly losing weight.

Sorry but what is "the dial thing" you are measure temperature with? If your reading of 75 is accurate, it is much too low.

Just an aside - it is usually before a shed that they refuse food, not after (when they often have voracious appetites), so it was a good sign that he ate right before shedding.

Before you head to the vets, raise the temps on the warm side to around 85 but only IF your current reading is accurate i.e. taken with a probe thermometer. Leave him alone for 2 or 3 days, then after he's warmed up try to feed again. Try scenting the pinkie with tuna or 'braining' it first (I'm assuming you're feeding frozen/thawed here) to make it smell as irresistable as possible. Make sure you leave the snake overnight with the pinkie in a covered-over container (inside the viv if you need to maintain temps).

If you wake up in the morning and the pinkie is still there, it's time to go to the vets.

Good luck.
