Striped Topaz SK SG Free
I received these two snakes not long ago and have been waiting for them to shed to get a comparison photo. One is a Striped Caramel het Amel from Rick Z and the other is a ?Caramel? Motley, from Mike P’s Goldust Motley breeders.

I thought this would be a very interesting comparison since we have been scratching our heads about what some of the offspring were from Mike’s Goldust Motley X ?Caramel? Motley something or other breeding this year. They are very similar, but the Caramel Motley’s yellow is brighter. Do you think she is also homo Ultra or Hypo? There are a couple of possibilities.

I thought a poll might be fun.

Parents

Mike used two males on this female, but both males look very similar to this one. The first photo is a Goldust Motley and the second is a ? Ultra Caramel Motley or Amber Motley or combo or OTHER.

after seeing the snake

in the eys of your camera I must say that your camera doesnt pick up yellow well. Thats a big difference in my opinion. They definately look the same in that photo. Thanks

They are not quite the same. The Motley's yellow is much cleaner and brighter and the brown/tan has a reddish cast to it. It is very striking.

I don't like how my camera picks up any of the colors, especially pink.

Zipper Effect

I like the zipper effect on that caramel. Should be fun trying to figure out just what they are.(ultra , hypo ?)
These two are het butter.

Nice Snakes! What Color morph are they?

"Zipper" Motleys, I like that. I have been calling them Striped Aztec Motleys around here for nothing better to call them. Here a couple Zipper Motleys het Snow that I produce two years in a row. Many come out with a partial zipper pattern, but when they are nearly complete, it is a very nice look.

I wanted to add that the two snakes in the comparison photo are of significantly different size and age, so it is not a perfect comparison, but it is the best that I could do.

to tell you the truth, that little ?carmel? guy looks like an amber, or at least the ultra version of it. He just doesn't seem to have enough dark pigment at all. Has anyone found any codominence with the carmel/ultra thing?

My current theory or thesis on Caramels is that they are co-dominant and not a recessive mutant gene. That is a complete turn around on my old fashion thinking that hets can not be seen. Everybody thinks they can see the hets and all of my hets sure are yellow. If the Caramel gene is co-dominant with normal and not recessive to it, this would explain a lot of questions. The breeding results such as 1 out of 4 Homos from Hets would be the same and Homo to het would still produce 50% Homos.

I was looking at all of my hold backs last night and each and every one of the hets for Caramel appear to be very yellow with each line they were combined with. I also noticed that it really shows up on the last half of their bellies, especially at around 6 - 7 months like they are now.

The Ultra line seems to carry a high amount of yellow pigment, so when combined with Caramels the yellows seem to really show up. I do not think there has been any suggestion or evidence that they are co-dominant to each other. In fact, the opposite is true.
