The 2008 Lollipop swap!

I'm going tonight to stock up on some lollies!! Also, for the US people, just pm me or Lori for our adresses if you are interested and we will send you our addresses to start collecting!

You know, if we put in (each) enough sets for how many are on the other side of the Atlantic, we won't have to worry about whether we have the same number on each side..
In other words if we are 20 here and 10 in Europe, Each of us here will put in 10 each of our lollypops.. Each of you there will put in 20 each of yours.. And everybody will receive the same number.. Just an idea, but I don't want to put anyone at a hardship if they were getting REALLY fancy stuff to send.

I've been drinking Margaritas, so if I'm ignoring some important point, you'll have to forgive me..

I think Tom has a good point here :)

Perhaps we should use this first week to find out how many people are interested in receiving and passing on lollies, then do a head count on each side of the pond, to work out how many lollies we need to be sending each way.

Then we could spend a week collecting lollies, if people want to contribute some to the communal pot, so to speak and have them send them to LBoz and measley in the US and Tula_Montage and myself for the UK/Europe. If Bluebird is still interested, we can work that in, once we find out how many people want to play :D

The collectors will then send the lollies collected, to their respective counterparts on the other side of the Atlantic, who will take out a set number of lollies, yet to be determined, and then pass the bag/box along to the next recipient and so on, until everyone has their share. Like a huge pass the parcel, only we'll be doing it by mail ;)

As the bags/boxes make their journey, members can take pics of their lollies, either with themselves, their snakes or even a local landmark.

I'm wondering if some people might be put off of joining in, because they are unsure of how much shipping would cost, so maybe the main collectors, on either side of the pond, could find out the cost of shipping a package, (internally) of say 1 to 2kg (might be lighter than that though), for a rough estimate and post the cost, that way we might get more participants :)

Any of that sound good/bad? Let me know :D

Yep that was the original plan. Use the first week to see who wants to be involved then tally it all up :)

Ill find out postage costs tomorrow, ill take a "dummy" package along to the post office.

Ok, I just checked out Royal mail website and internal Uk prices for a 1kg parcel to be delivered first class, is £3.08p. Don't forget the weight will decrease as people take out their lollies and therefore shipping will go down the lighter the parcel gets :)

I'm gonna get a giant bag of Dum-Dums sometime this week that I'll be sending off to Measley (when I say "giant", I mean like a 6lb bag). Since those are fairly small, I say everyone should be able to take 5 or 6. I think there's over 100 lollies in that one bag.

Woah, 6lb is like 3kg and that would cost a bomb in shipping internationally, 2kg from the UK to USA at small packet prices is like $40+, so I think we should be careful on the weight :duck: Don't forget your volunteer collectors are going to ship them to the UK :)

I was gonna hold onto some of them for the trick-or-treaters here. Don't worry, I won't ship the whole bag!

I hope you didn't think I was being mean, I think it's great that you want to contribute, but I don't think we should make it too costly especially for the international shippers ;)

Once we know who/how many, want to take part, maybe we should work out how many lollipops each person should send into the collectors? :shrugs:

I'm just throwing suggestions around here :) Feel free to throw some others in ;)

Question wouldnt it be cheaper if all the names are gathered then each person gets two or so names of other people. Then you send them a couple of lollipops to that person directly. I'm willing to do something like that because it would cost less. Just an idea.

Also, US shippers let me know what we end up paying, I will chip in via paypal or something.

I'm also ok with making it fewer pops so that we each grab one or two and pass it on. I just wanted to put that other idea out there in case people were stuck trying to find a way to make it fair. In actuality I'm sure there's a hundred ways we can make it fair.

I don't want to speak for Elle, as it was her idea in the first place, BUT, I think this may be another way we could do this, if the cost is what is prohibiting some people from participating :shrugs: Maybe we should see what she says, but keep this idea in mind :)

Now that's another good idea :)

Elle, what do you think, this is your baby? :)
