The Feds attack us yet again...

Hey this is for any folk out there breeding boas and pythons, so this includes Kathy Love as well.
PIJAC is taking a survey to help us fight this legal issue. I guess having facts will help fight this.

PIJAC is conducting a survey to compile information on the breeding and trade in python species that would be impacted by Senate Bill 373, introduced in the U.S. Congress by Senator Nelson of Florida.

Survey data provided to PIJAC will be consolidated into an industry report. PIJAC will not reveal the identity of any individual or business entity responding to the survey and will only use data that appears to be credible.

To ensure confidential treatment of the sources of the survey information, your survey will not be reviewed or shared with anyone other than a PIJAC lawyer.

We appreciate your willingness to participate and share very proprietary information.

We prefer that you complete the online version of this survey, however, you may fill out the .PDF version of this survey and return it to us by postal mail.

If you have any questions, please contact Marshall Meyers at (202) 452-1525 or by email at: [email protected].
1. To have your information included in the consolidated data, we may need to contact you for clarification. Please provide the following:

I did take the survey a while back. It was a little difficult to do because pythons comprise such a small part of what I do, and I had to estimate a lot of the answers. But everyone with pythons should check it out in case they can help in any way.

Thanks for posting Kathy, I think the best way they are approaching this is how much money is going to be effected by this ban.
With the economy in the tanker, people stating that their lively hood is going to be effected and they will loose income may be a weighting factor.

I know there are some Ball python breeders here. Even if you breed 6 animals, please post. Any and all will help stop these bans from happening.

Myself and 12 of my friends and family sent "snail mailed" letters to all members on the committe plus our representitives who represent us. We went by the instructions per USARK and sent the letters to Tom Wolf to be hand delivered.

23 committe memembers x 13 people works out to be 299 letters!

Plus my local PetCo, Pet Smart, and Pet Supermarket allowed me to put up large flyers directing folks to nohr669.com. While I was putting up the fliers, some customers in the stores started asking questions and most were about to crap their pants with anger and disbelief when they soon realized HR669 just wasn't about reptiles, but included most all of the other pets as well. I instructed them on how they can jump on the bandwagon and help put a stop to this.

That's interesting, considering that PetSmart and PetCo donate to HSUS, whose agenda includes eliminating the ownership of reptiles.

Its not just about reptiles and besides most employees including management are clueless about the HSUS agenda. HR669 goes after fish birds and small mammals too.

OMG

im not from the us, but is this what i understand ? breeding and transport of snakes , and parachutes(i mispelled it i know) hamsters and more animals being banned? OMG can the goverment really do that? o_O i mean no more hamsters and snakes in the whole damn country :|

The first incarnation of this ridiculous bill was shot down, primarily because we (reptile enthusiasts) sent something like 50,000 letters (can't remember just how many, but it was a lot!), and it surprised them. So they crept back to their lairs to try to rework it to see just how much freedom they can usurp without raising TOO much opposition. But rest assured that they will be back!

All of the humaniac groups pushing this agenda will try the old "divide and conquer" method of attacking the most vulnerable group first, getting them out of the way so they can go after the next group, one at a time. Their ultimate goal is to totally remove all animals from any contact with people, whether for pets (including cats and dogs), food, leather, hunting, seeing eye dogs, research, or any other reason. But they understand that most people would not stand for that complete agenda, so they are patient, taking little nibbles of our freedom at a time. Unfortunately, we can't seem to understand that we (animal keepers or users of all types) are in the same boat, and will either support each other, or fall separately, one by one.

Right now, HSUS and other radical humaniac groups have convinced Congress to try to ban import and commerce of some, many, or all, of the "giant" snakes. It remains to be seen just how many, if any, will get banned. But very few non-python owners have called or written to voice their opposition.

HSUS and similar groups have a HUGE budget work with, and their attacks are unending. And they know how to work the political system and the news media to their advantage. So their threats are very scary and very real.

i wish people from all the world could send them letters, i would be more then gratefull to stop this tragic thing from happening

I am not sure if you mean sending letters to the US Congress, or to the humaniac groups, such as HSUS. I don't think the animal rights organizations can be changed, unless enough reasonable people infiltrate them, one by one, and advance to leadership positions. That is basically how the HSUS changed from an animal welfare organization to an extremist group - takeover of leadership positions.

And the US Congress probably will only listen to voters - and only if LOTS of them respond.

BUT - extremist groups such as HSUS and PETA have branches ALL OVER THE WORLD. They will push their agenda IN ANY COUNTRY that they can gain a foothold in. So research their activity in your own country, and stand against them, or any other similar group. And - this is really important - try to convince anyone and everyone NOT to send donations to any organization that wants to take away your rights and freedoms. A lot of people are swayed by tear jerker commercials, without researching any further as to what their money REALLY goes to. You can be the voice of reason, to convince them to send their donations only to organizations that REALLY are in sync with the donor's wishes.

the only orginization i know like that in malta is called greenpeace , last time they tried to stop maltese people from fishing cause they taught they where fishing some illegal fish, they climbed on their boads to check even tough they told them to stay away. they ended up being punched and kicked back into the sea lol.

but what i meant was i wish i could get people and send emails or letters to your congrress that could count on preventing this from happening to your country its very sad thing. i know its not possible but if there's anything ican do don't hesitate you have my support. i never imagined that something could happen like this to country , more over to america which i used to think of an advanced free open minded country and tought of coming living there one day.

ALERT: S373 Senate Call In Tomorrow

S373 aka ‘The Python Ban’ will receive a Hearing before the Senate Environment & Public Works (EPW) Committee Chaired by Barbara Boxer (D-CA) on December 3, 2009. The bill sponsor is Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL). If passed as written it would Ban all snakes in the family Pythonidae, placing them on the Injurious Wildlife List of the Lacey Act. That is ALL 40 species of pythons! This action would stop all import, export and interstate transport. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has taken steps to lobby Senator Nelson to add Boa Constrictor to the bill as well. HSUS has publicly called for an end of reptile ownership nationwide for years.

This will NOT be a full and fair hearing on this issue. As we understand it right now there will be eight bills heard by the committee with only one witness to testify on all eight. USARK does not anticipate that there will be additional witnesses called. This seems to be an effort to ram through as many bills as possible in as short a time as possible.

Yes, they want to ram something through FAST! And the call in is actually TODAY.

Once they pry the pythons and boas away, then the humaniacs will come calling for the rest of YOUR herps. So don't think this power grab won't affect you if you don't keep pythons and boas. "Divide and conquer" is a good strategy, and often works!

is this bill going through the house and the senate? i will email my representitive if its going through full congress...

S373 aka ‘The Python Ban’ has been amended to include the 9 great constrictors referenced in the recent report released by the US Geological Survey entitled Giant Constrictors: Biological and Management Profiles and an Establishment Risk Assessment for Nine Large Species of Pythons, Anacondas, and the Boa Constrictor. If passed as written S373 would add all 9 snakes to the Injurious Wildlife list of the Lacey Act making it a felony to engage in the import, export and interstate transport of any of these animals.
This possibility is unacceptable to USARK and the Reptile Nation. We are encouraging everyone with an interest in S373 to click on www.Kill-S373.com and participate in the USARK Kill S373 Letter Campaign. There you will find step by step instructions, a sample letter, contact information and even an instructional video to help you write your US Senators an effective letter opposing S373. We have learned that written letters are one of the most effective ways to lobby Congress. Sending an email is NOT enough! Write your letters. Get your friends and family involved writing letters too.
USARK spearheaded a similar letter writing campaign last spring. The Reptile Nation generated 50,000 letters opposing HR669. The bill was crushed. Time to do it again! Spread the web address www.Kill-S373.com all over the internet. Put it on your facebook page. Put it on your MySpace page. Twitter it. Post it on every forum or social networking site that you frequent. Email it to everyone you know! www.Kill-S373.com will take you straight to the resources you need to do your letters. We have made it as easy as it can possibly be, but it will require some effort. January 12th is our deadline. We don’t have much time. Do it today!
If you are an Industry Leader You Must Make an APPOINTMENT to MEET With Your Senators!! If you care about your business you will do this!!!
