The infamous banana and mayo sandwich

I'm a Georgia native and the thing I miss most since moving to Ohio is the delicious Southern food. When I'm homesick I like to enjoy a southern delicacy: the banana and mayonnaise sandwich. Of course it has to be Duke's mayo, the only mayo I'll ever eat. It is sugar free and tart, which complements the sweet banana perfectly. However, everyone in Ohio thinks I am a sicko for eating it! I also enjoy a good pineapple and Duke's sandwich. Has anyone else tried this delicious southern treasure?

Hahaha, yeah that's basically the reaction I always get. I work with people from around the world and people outside the USA tend to be more willing to try it. So far everyone that has been willing to try it has enjoyed it, even those that normally don't like mayo (I'm telling you, Duke's is crucial). I guess it could be a problem if you hate bananas!

I really like bananas and mayo but I've never thought of trying them together haha, might just have to give it a go, I don't think they sell dukes mayo over here I haven't even heard of it until now

Probably not, it is only sold in the southeastern US as far as I know. I have to order mine on Amazon :(

Maybe try it with your favorite mayo anyways, although it won't be totally authentic!

It's a bit of a long way to order mayo from for me haha, probably take a few weeks to get here haha, I'll try it and let you know what I think;)

I'd be willing to try it for the sake of adventure. But I'm not a banana fan so I don't think I'd like it too much. Mayo, on the other hand, is like my best friend haha.

If you aren't a banana fan, try it with fresh pineapple rings instead (make sure to dap them thoroughly with a paper towel to prevent soggy bread)!

Peanut butter and banana is good. I never liked mayo and banana sandwiches although I am a native Floridian and there are people who eat that around here.

Some people enjoy the unholy trinity of peanut butter, banana, and mayo. Those are the true sickos!

(Although I've never had all three. Maybe I shouldn't judge them the way I have been judged, lol)

I'd try it. I've definitely tried presumably worse. I get a lot of looks for some of the sandwiches I eat so I know how that goes. Don't think I would have personally ever thought of combining mayo and bananas, just two flavor types that don't seem like they'd go well together. Now I guess I might have to try it sometime. Never seen Dukes mayo anywhere around here though, so if it's crucial then I might just pass.

Hmm- I'd try that. One of my favorite things that I never have is a bologna and mayo sandwich. I like that brand of mayo, too. Want me to bring you some next time I come up to Ohio? :)

Nythain, what are some of your eyebrow-raising sandwiches?

Nanci, bring some sunbeam bread too!

DYK I can't for the life of me eat bologna anymore.
When I was growing up, we spent summers at my dad's house. Dad and stepmom worked during the day, so we were on our own for lunch. My dad didn't keep much food in the house, besides the dinner meals. What they did have for lunches was sandwiches. ALWAYS bologna. I don't think they've bought any other lunchmeat in their life. Every, single, day...bologna and cheese. I just can't do bologna anymore.

Lol. My mom used to make us fried bologna sandwiches as kids. Sometimes she would fry the actual sandwich like a grilled cheese (the bologna was fried separately, lol), and of course there was Duke's inside. She was clearly trying to give us all heart attacks. But now I'm a vegetarian (here come the comments about vegetarians with obligate carnivores as pets) so I don't feel too guilty enjoying an occasional grilled cheese with Duke's.

I can sort of picture how the flavors would go together. I never used to like mayo, but my fiancee loves it, so now I've started to like it.

But bologna, yuck! I've hated that stuff since I was a kid.

Man I miss fried bologna sandwiches. I should make a couple sometime soon. I always thought they were as common as peanut butter and jelly when I was a kid. Then I met more people and got tons of "ewwww" every time I mentioned them. Apparently not as common as I had thought.
