The new reptile room! Still in progress ...

Been working on organizing the reptile room a bit today and it's feeding day for most of the snakes. Just about have the first wave's mice thawed. They all skipped a week because of the move.

I love your set up. We are planning on converting our spare bedroom into a reptile room as soon as my brother moves out of our place. I really like your shelving units, they fit everything really nicely.

Thanks! Overall, I really like those shelves too! We got a really good deal on two of the smaller ones, those under the window, at Costco. They are a much heavier duty than any of the others and only cost 30 some dollars, don't remember exactly now. The third one under the window was a rack my husband had already had.
Unfortunately, a room to themselves was pretty much a necessity with our evil cat. She seems to have mellowed a bit now she's out of the kitten/teenage stage but she used to jump at the cages all the time and was such a viscious predator that we didn't want to chance her managing to break through the screens. Would have been delighted with those living strings!
While we were dating and my husband only had two snakes, he used Lexan to make swinging covers on the front of that one smaller rack, that Velcro'd down and blocked the sides with cardboard so the cat couldn't get at the tanks themselves. But once we got married and added my hoard, a room with a door that could be shut was the only really practical way to deal with that many cages!

And just for fun, here is the door to the reptile room.

And we just put two baby racks up to see how it will look, can see the mess much more in this picture though.

Wow, that looks wonderful! You have turned it into such a nice showroom. I love the sign on the door!

These are the newest pictures we have, pardon the clutter. I'd been planning on taking pictures the next day when it was straightened up and a couple of the cages cleaned but my husband went ahead and took these the night before. These are from almost two months ago. Need to take some new ones soon.

Wow, I am going to be hitting you up for pointers when I start ours this winter/spring 2014. We need to clear out our storage room first, but this is like a dream for me.

You have done an amazing job with it. How much are the carts you are sitting the cages on and where do you get them from? I love the fact that they are movable so you can rearrange as you get new additions or want to create more floor space.

Such an amazing room and likely the coolest I've seen so far on this board. I'm beyond envious Tavia!

Thanks! We got the racks at both Costco and Lowe's and they were around $30-$40 for the smaller ones and around $65-$80 for the large ones. We are still waiting on buying a corner rack, found one online that is perfect and will make great use of the space in that one corner but it's about $150 and we don't actually need it at the moment. Also thinking that eventually we will take the doors off the closet and put one of the smaller racks in there, there is a nice built in shelf along the top and shelves down one side that are good for storage and one of the smaller racks will fit perfectly.

I'll have to ask my husband, I don't remember where it came from. He had it since before we got married. He's a nuclear engineer with a secondary degree in chemistry, so it seemed very apropos!

Sorry Chip, my husband doesn't remember where or when he got that sign, just somewhere online.
