Yeah... Imagine how tough it would have been for the media to go berserk over bullets that were named "Black Talons" if instead that had been colored differently and named "Pink Punishers".

Ran across this on the Internet. English bulldogs usually have one to four puppies, very often just one or twins. This one had more mouths than she could nurse. Cuteness alert.

OMGOSH, definitely cuteness alert. Next on my too buy list when I decide to get another puppy!
This is the type of dog we wanted originally, but we got an American Bulldog thinking they'd be close to the same size.... hah were we WRONG.
Our American Bulldog is mastiff size! (same family really)

You're American bulldog should not be mastiff size. I've fostered dozens and none even come close...they are closer to the staffordshire in size if anything...bulldogs are much shorter. English bulldogs have so many health issues I wouldn't get near one. It's so sad how they've been bred into near uselessness....they can't breath, have skin and eye issues, joint issues, cannot even have litters normally but need cesarean sections.....considering this once proud breed was used for bullbaiting, and now cannot even leave the house on a warm day for fear it will collapse in heat stroke.....when I worked for the vet, the bulldogs paid for most of the overhead with all their bills!

Exaggerate much? The AKC has ruined the breed, for the most part, but I'll have bulldogs the rest of my life. Mine is nine and goes on a mile jog with me daily (nightly in hot weather) and has never had a vet expense out of the usual. They aren't all "bred into uselessness," you just have educate yourself before you shop and watch calories & work their butts off.

omg I think I just died of cuteness.

I LOVE english bulldogs(American bulldogs are awesome as well). I don't think I could talk my husband into one but they are a fun breed. Most I have met are really silly.

Sheesh, forever the argumentative.
Yes, he's close to mastiff size (just a bit smaller) and yes he's pure bred. Maybe East Coast American Bulldogs are smaller lol. ;)
His sisters are quite a bit smaller but he got HUGE.

It's funny, I've been into animal showing most of my life and this seems to be a truth for almost all American standard clubs; no matter the animal.
They want to 'preserve a breed' but (such as in chickens) to the point of killing off a breed due to inbreeding. They want the subject animal to show certain prominent features represented of their breed but (as in horses) the prominent features are detrimental to the health and usefulness of the animal - i.e. quarter horses with tiny feet and large (steroid looking) bodies.
I've shown quarter horses since I was able to enter 4H and couldn't stand the 'visual aspect' of what was preferred by the judges; monster horses that couldn't even support their own weight and foundered easy.

You're right about that. I have ridgebacks and they are certainly larger here than in South Africa but they are still essentially the same since they are relatively a new breed in the US (only since the 50's) so haven't been completely ruined. I agree with you on the quarter horses as well....they stand there but can't work. Feet are small and they are muscle bound.
As far as East coast amer. bulldogs...don't know about that. All the ones I've had were under 80 lbs of weight and about 24" tall. No where near 120+ or higher pounds of a mastiff's that you see today...although they are only supposed to be 24-27" and 110 to 120 lbs according to breed standard.
You are very lucky Chip! Your dog is more the exception than the rule. We had to rush an English bulldog to a vet for overheating when doing snake training....just because it stressed and got too hot. We had them come into the vet's office all the time for respiratory issues, skin issues and entropion. Breeders need to say enough is enough and refuse to continue breeding the dogs the way they do. It becomes more about winning rather than quality and the judges are the same people that bred and won earlier in their careers.. Same as with horses...I saw it in the Arab world...it didn't matter what you did to the horse as long as you won a ribbon...the abuse was astounding...same as in walking horses....the Arabs you see today are nothing like the old Arabs of the 40's and 50's that came from original Arabian stock. My old Arab would never have won a halter class as he didn't have a pronounced dish, but he did look just like the old Arabs you saw in photos. Stocky, short and a light dish....he was awesome and I still miss the common sense that horse had! Same thing though...the judges that are judging the horses now are the ones that won with that type of horse when they showed...they just perpetuate it and people in their pursuit of winning continue to promote it. Very sad....

If I had a picture of you.
I'd photoshop a wundermuffin pic.
About how a Bulldawg wonderfully suits you.
I'm kinda partial to pits these days.
And my mixed mutt RIP Autumn,
From one of those big fluffy Alaskan dogs that has one blue eye and one brown,
and rolls over on her back and lets the Doxen 'go to town'
the dog that never should have been, small X medium size
Link, it's a big picture.
I always told people when they asked
"Oh. She's a Bangladesh Forest Dog. They're rare".
I stay the heck away from free dog ads.
I'd bring them all home.
I like your Bulldawg, & I'd babysit him anytime.
They aren't all "bred into uselessness," you just have educate yourself before you shop and watch calories & work their butts off.

So they're like boyfriends girlfriends huzbinds n wives and sig others like that huh?

Last time we brought my pooch to the vet he weighed around 115 lbs and could stand to gain some more. (his name is Titan, and it's fitting)
Poor guy has been diagnosed with doggy MS, so he has a tough time getting around, even though he's not too old.
He probably is unusually large and most likely wouldn't be accepted into showmanship because of it but he's just our family dog; he has no more obligations beyond that.

American bulldogs are popular around here, apparently (didn't realize this until I got him and did some research) and they do still have competitions for things such as log and weight pulls for them.
