What great pics of BUGS!!! Just lovely. The Assassin bug is simply too kewl.

I always thought that the green bug that Amanda last posted was a "chigger". Turns out I'm wrong! Gee... how to go about finding out what it is... LOL. How do you google "What is THIS?" LOL.

Yeah I had no clue what he was. I bought a plant for my chameleon...I set it down for a second and when I turned around..he was just kinda chillin' on one of the leaves....
I love the Assassin bug!..but I don't know what "kind" of assassin bug he is..there are so many different ones...:shrugs:

It's a Scarlet-and-Green Leafhopper. ;)

Thanks a ton!! I had no idea what it was..(I also forgot about trying to figure it out)...haha...for small simple bugs..They have some impressive colors!

SORRY IF THIS ONE GROSSES SOME OF YOU OUT...

This dude was eating a dead mouse in my back yard.....
I waited about 15 mins and he never came up for air so I don't have a better shot w/his head in it..

But check out his little cling-on buddies around his legs......Babies or a parasite??..or just another hungry bug??...what do you think?

Those do look like mites... could be beneficial mites, I know Hissing cockroaches have them.

But wow, he's beautiful whatever it is! And certainly carnivorous.

Ewwww! How close did you have to be to get that shot, Amanda? I wouldn't be able to get where I could even get a whiff of "dead mouse" smell or I'd be gagging the whole time.

awesome thread! i haven't gone out and actively sought out bugs to photograph but through the past couple years i have snapped a few pics here and there and thought i would post them.
1.this pic i got when i heard some bugs fighting in the trees and managed to catch the decapitation of the fly.
2-3. a mantis eating another and a pic of a molt i guess
4. not sure what it is- but when it gets on you, it likes to stick on you
5. a furry cat

I had my camera right up there....but it didn't smell as bad as I thought it would..I guess it had been baking in the sun for a little bit......

Going back to the very first bug posted, it looks to be a Beelike Tachinid Fly.

And the mouse-eating dude is a Tomentose Burying Beetle.

Cool shots! I'm really not a fan of the creepy crawlies, but there have been quite a few strange ones that I've seen this year, and I wish I had been able to get some photos.
