Time travel: Not just for sci-fi

What is puzzling me is that if you have to go threw a gate how would you keep the gate open with out it going unstable. But with things like that there is no prediction or even way of knowing where the other gate way will end up. So you will have no way of getting back to the exact time and you will be lost. Because i read it tears a whole in time and space where is it not possible to open the gate.

As am I..lol...

but on the subject of time travel..I don't know...I don't really see it as a possibility..I mean..we can control fire, water, machines...etc..we are even starting to be able to control weather..but I don't see time as a thing that we could grasp like that...The past is the past..There is no going back..It's already been and happened. If time travel was possible even through such a beginning point as this experiment..you have to think that eventually it would become more advanced and thus people could travel even further back..If this was possible..Then why have we not seen or heard of people coming from the past? Whether to visit or change something in time..I know if time travel was possible I would go back to see Jesus and I would also with all my power try to prevent 911 from ever happening..but those are my thoughts on what I would do with my "TIME"..lol..I'm not trying to be critical or negative in any way..just giving my view on it..I mean..I'm sure if I think I would try to stop 911 I'm sure there are others out there with similar thoughts on maybe other events..yet everything still remains unchanged..

Have you never seen Doctor Who? The first rule of time travel - NEVER CROSS YOUR OWN TIMELINE, and don't use time travel to merely change something you didn't agree with.

But honestly, you have no idea what you are going to change if you stop something like 9/11. For all we know, it could make things ten times worse than they are now, and I don't think I would wish that on anyone. Yeah, great, fine, go to the beginning of the Earth and see what happened, and if Jesus was real, then go see him, but keep it at a distance, cos for all you know, talking to Jesus could alter the evolution of mankind in an altogether different way.

I'm just saying what I would think about doing if time travel was real...but of course we must also presume that if time travel became possible there would be some very strict rules and laws to follow...I'm sure they won't just send anyone back in time as well..

If time travel was real and came about in my lifetime, I'd come back to the earliest date possible and open a high-interest savings account for myself. Zip back to the future. BINGO-BANGO-BOUGHT-A-LAMBO.

Maize, it's not possible to travel back in time now. There has to be an initial black hole in the first place, otherwise there's no link. So we wouldn't be able to alter anything that's happened previously. Also, like K'Bear said, if you do alter something that's already happened that can have serious repercussions. There's only one thing in the universe that can travel faster than light, and that's a tachyon, and because they travel so fast they actually travel backwards in time to achieve the universal equilibrium.

So if this does happen, 2008 could be year zero for time travel, as it's the first link. And if the trend is continued then people from the future could appear, from said black hole.

Actually Dave my car travels faster than the speed of light ....Honest. And I can prove it...Honest

I saw this on BBC World News. The funniest thing in that article that was said was "Professor Rössler claims that, in the worst case scenario, the earth could be sucked inside out within four years of a mini black hole forming."

Now that I thought about it, I have to agree with Professor Rössler, they should stop. Are we ready for this thing if it does work??

i like how they're spending 10 BILLION of the worlds dollars on an experiment that is supposed to replicate a THEORY of the birth of the universe.

there are starving people all over the world! they don't care about what happens if you smash particles together! they want clean drinking water, clean living quarters (or any living quarters at all) and food in their bellies. what is the world coming to? can't people appreciate wonder and mystery? time travel is for movies. etc etc

I have to agree, that's a ridiculous amount of money to be investing in something that could potentially be so dangerous.
To me this is just another example of the arrogance of the human race. Just because we are smart enough to invent something doesn't always mean it's a good idea to make it happen. Kind of reminds me of the atomic bomb.. So clever and so stupid.
(But hey if the earth sucks itself inside out as a result and that takes four years, we will be right on schedule with the Mayan calendar prediction for 2112 being the date of the end of the world.)

Well it's been fired up and is now on line.......It happened 3 hrs ago and I'm still here....:crazy01:

Like all science it will one day reap rewards.....Anti-gravity engines and a cure for cancer are two of the potential benefits being bandied around... So it's not exactly a waste of money.....

it still seems a little rash, i would say. though i'm sure these "mad scientists" know more than we do about this kind of crap. i still think it's a ridiculas chunk of money that could have been spent on way better things.

what on earth would we need an anti-gravity machine for, praytell?

UMMMMM,oil is a fossil fuel, a pollutant, and is running out springs to mind...

The sky is falling. The sky is falling.

Can you imagine how frightening it was for the Mayans when they saw their first eclipse of the sun. We always fear what we don't understand.

Subatomic particles are being smashed all the time all around us. It happens naturally without our help. This is just the first time we have tried to cause it in an environment where we could study the results.

I promise. The earth is not going to eat itself. The sun will come up again tomorrow.

haha wait whoa i just started looking up anti-gravity and there's some really tweaked stuff i never would have thought of. it's so hard to get into the mindset of thinking about things you don't understand!

Well thats a safe bet Wade....

If your right we'll all still be here, and if your wrong, well there's no one to say "I thought you said it would be alright"

hmmm how will an anti gravity machine help us with oil?

Imagine, a train load of merchandise. I levitate it with my anti gravity machine. Give it a little push and watch it go coast to coast with out even starting the engine.
