Congrats! Nice sized clutch for a first timer
Thanks Mike. :) Yeah, I'm proud of her. It took a lot out of her though, so I'm really hoping she doesn't double-clutch with retained sperm.

Congratulations! Isn't it exciting!

Good luck with the certification process. I'm stepping into that now too! I can't even get past the account set up part though!

Congrats Dean, you have a nice clutch there and the mama... waow... gorgeous!

Silly question but can they really retain viable sperm that long in their body??

Thanks Nina. :) Yep, they can retain viable sperm for months. It's not unheard of for it to be retained until the next breeding season, but I think it's pretty rare.

Luckily this doesn't happen with humans!

Such pretty eggs, and such pretty snakes. My new ghost from Mike B. looks a bit like yours.

You really should get certified to ship. You have all these snakes that I covet. If you won't just send them all to me, :sidestep: you should at least arrange to be able to ship so I can buy some of the offspring.

Yeah..... I haven't told my husband yet that, with the new snakes I have from Mike B. and the babies that I'm growing, I've already efectively filled up my 24 adult rack spaces...And of course, I'll have to keep offspring that are het for what I'm trying to get...and....buy more snakes...

He may have me certified! And it won't be with FedEx!! :crazy02:

Thanks guys. :D

Thanks. Yep, I'm familiar with Casper. He's one of my favorite ghosts, along with Susan's Boo.

Gotta start working on it!

Same here but if he tries, I'll get HIM certified and it won't be Microsoft nor Cisco....LOL

The clutch that prompted this thread should be pipping any minute now (day 59). Most of the 20 eggs still look great. One is fuzzy, and will not likely hatch. Another couple are severely dented, but show no sign of spoilage. I don't know if those are close to pipping, or dead.

Despite the fact that I didn't really want her to, the coral snow Mom laid a second clutch last night. There were 10 good-looking eggs, and two slugs. This snake is now emaciated. :( She ate five adult and two weaned mice in the two months since she clutched, but she certainly wasn't fully recovered. I'm going to give her a small weaned this evening, and hopefully she'll be all right soon. :awcrap:

Exactly how hard/expensive is it to be certified to ship? My colony is beginning to grow beyound my network of local shops,

It's not expensive, but I guess it can be frustrating depending on who you get as a FedEx rep to work with. I'm no expert (haven't gotten certified myself yet), so I'll advise you to use the 'search' feature in these forums. I'd go with 'certified' as a search term, or maybe even 'fedex'. There are threads here that explain the process in detail. :)

Great news on the first clutch looking good, as for Corina, i'm sure you'll get her up to fighting weight in no time........ :)

Thanks for the encouragement, Brian. :) She wasted no time attacking the weaned mouse I just gave her, so I think she's going to be ok. I might give her next year off. I wouldn't want to do THIS to her every year. She really does look terrible. :(

I'm guessing this happened without you putting her with a male again based on your disappointment. My female laid 22 eggs on May 23rd and has been getting real nervous again like she was when gravid. Then, this past Saturday she passed on her dinner. Up till this time she's been feeding like a beast. Is it possible she's retained sperm and is gravid again?:shrugs:

Correct. It was due to sperm retention. Considering that both parents were first-timers, it was somewhat surprising to me. But I have to admit, that little male performed like a seasoned pro during their three "sessions". I'd say that there's a good chance that your female is going the same route. The timing is a little different though, but I'm not experienced enough as a breeder to know how much this matters. It seems as if I read a number of threads where a female was laying a second clutch around the same time that the first was pipping. When this girl skipped her last few meals after a streak of voracious feedings, I became suspicious too. Good luck to you and your girl.
