Told Myself I Wouldn't, But...

I understand you Dean. I just realized that 2 of my girls are double clutching and they were small after their first clutch. I am really worried about them expecially about my snow (she was 210gr last week GRAVID!!!), they both should lay their eggs this week. I just hope they will both make it. Good luck with your girl Dean and post pics of the babies when they'll hatch. :)

dean, just saw this thread finally (thank god for thread diggers). Great pairing for sure. It should be nice to see if you get some offspring with dad's color.

Thanks Caroline, and I hope your two make it through without incident. :)

That's the hope. If his coloration can be passed on, then I would have some definite project ideas that would take advantage of it (high-color ghost-bloods?). I ain't gonna play around with standard gray ghosts , even though I like them too. ;)

It's not expensive, but I guess it can be frustrating depending on who you get as a FedEx rep to work with. I'm no expert (haven't gotten certified myself yet), so I'll advise you to use the 'search' feature in these forums. I'd go with 'certified' as a search term, or maybe even 'fedex'. There are threads here that explain the process in detail. :)

Dean-

I sent out my test package earlier in the week, and will be certified once I get up there. If you need to ship animals out on my account you're more than welcome to until you get yourself certified.

Thanks Joe. I might have to take you up on that. :)

Correct. It was due to sperm retention. Considering that both parents were first-timers, it was somewhat surprising to me. But I have to admit, that little male performed like a seasoned pro during their three "sessions". I'd say that there's a good chance that your female is going the same route. The timing is a little different though, but I'm not experienced enough as a breeder to know how much this matters. It seems as if I read a number of threads where a female was laying a second clutch around the same time that the first was pipping. When this girl skipped her last few meals after a streak of voracious feedings, I became suspicious too. Good luck to you and your girl.
She just skipped meal #2 and her lower half is getting that rounded belly look she had when ovulating :eek1:. Is it unethical to hope for slugs?:grin01: I'm not certified to ship so I need to get rid of these locally. The 22 incubating now are almost gone between friends, schools and local pet shops, but I certainly wasn't expecting a double clutch.

I would say don't incubate a second clutch, rather than hope for slugs. There's no obligation to produce babies that you aren't prepared for. If you think you can't find homes for them, throw the eggs away and don't beat yourself up over it.

Hopefully next year I'll have this same problem with the Lavender het Bloodred!!! Double clutches will be welcome there!

Her 1st clutch of 22 is all dimpled but no pips yet (day 60) and she gave me 14 more eggs this morning. 6 look OK, but a bit on the small side, at least compared to her 1st clutch, the others were slugs. She's looking pretty wasted tonight so tomorrow I'll offer her a rat pup.

1st pic is her 1st clutch, 2nd & 3rd, the ones from today.

Nice job Danny! Our lil Anery is showing signs like she is going to double on us too. We knew our Okeetee might do it because we were told she had the last 2 years and so again true to her reputation....a second clutch! It is almost like clock work around here on the doubling. Her first clutch pipped and about a week later she laid another one. (Our clutches are hatching out at about 57 days on both of them so far.) Keep us posted! And like Roy Munson said the girls can look pretty worn out from double clutching! Go slow on the eating part. Good luck! Dont forget the baby pics!! LOL

Despite the fact that I didn't really want her to, the coral snow Mom laid a second clutch last night. There were 10 good-looking eggs, and two slugs. This snake is now emaciated. :( She ate five adult and two weaned mice in the two months since she clutched, but she certainly wasn't fully recovered. I'm going to give her a small weaned this evening, and hopefully she'll be all right soon. :awcrap:

Don't worry Dean, last year I had a female go from 520g before her first clutch to 240g after her 2nd and she bounced back beautifully to double clutch again this year!!!

Best of luck with them all!

Yep, I remember it. The good eggs from that second clutch look like fine. Good luck with them. :)

Thanks Adèle. That mother snow's already bouncing back nicely. She's always been a great weight gainer, and she's pounding a good-sized adult mouse every seven days. :)
