Too many too soon?

You don't REALLY need furniture. And seriously, who reads books anymore? Why have kitchen counter space when you can just order takeout? :grin01:

In order to keep our dogs out of the cat dishes, our counter space is the cats dining area. We don't really have much furniture as we have 3 cat trees in our living room and our couch is a glorified dog bed. We have another 2 cat trees in the spare room in which we also have a guest bed that we're looking at getting rid of so we can move the snake tanks in from our living room and bedroom. As neither of us is keen on tubs that kind of puts a limit our how many snakes we can house. Thankfully we have a guy in town who makes some awesome custom stackable tanks. And, since we don't plan on procreating we can spoil our furry and scaly kids ;)

For the record, I'd like to say that I wasn't at all keen on tubs either...until I got a rack and put some tubs in it. It didn't mean more snakes in my case, but it permitted me to have more of the snakes in one place. The rack is in my bedroom, along with two of the aquarium-vivs. I find now that it's pretty relaxing to be able in those few spare moments to stretch out on the bed and read and watch lots of snakes. Somebody's always out, often several somebodies.

There's another benefit to tubs too, for those snakes who like to play hide-the-poo. It's easy to find and clean when you can just look through the bottom of the tub. I know that this thread isn't about tubs per se, and I do believe that too many snakes are kept in tubs that are too small. But in my case, getting a large proportion of the collection in one place on a rack makes it more manageable AND more enjoyable. (And maybe I can talk hubby into another rack! :sidestep: )

I thought the same thing. Now I have 6 tubs & 4 tanks. I love the tubs. They are big enough, offering as much or more floor surface than the snake would have gotten in the tank I would have used instead. And when they need cleaning, I can EASILY carry them to the bathroom and really wash them thoroughly and rinse them even more thoroughly so I can be sure the bleach/water mixture is rinsed out. So for me it's making it easier to give them a nice clean environment. I have 2 large tanks, a 20L & a I-think-it's-40G and they are heavy. Very heavy. So washing them properly is a struggle. I know if I had this many snakes in heavy tanks I wouldn't wash them as often.

That being said, I am realizing I spend a lot of time washing, feeding, etc, which is why although I have some guest snakes coming to visit, I won't be buying any more for quite a while.

83 snakes currently in my house, 25 are in Tanks (20L, 20H, 10, 15)
Most snakes are in Tubs (58qt, 16qt, 6qt)
Cleanability and space saving are the best reasons for tubs.
Sterilites are my friends..

After chatting with Betsy, we decided this thread needed to be made. Mainly because some people here seem to be diving into snakes. Getting more in quarentine than their entire safe collection. I have done alot of things that maybe I shouldn't have done. But certain people here do seem to be in way over their head and don't yet see it. I mean I am thinnning my collection in order to focus on new things.

I was told after three that I was done....then she started bringing them home. We are now up to 6 in just over 6 months. It's an addiction for sure.

The experience has been great so far, albeit big changes, fast. I'm now at a point of saturation of sorts. We're learning how to manage 6 effectively and still be able to handle them and treat them as pets instead of a ''collection.''

Until I win the powerball and make my physical space unlimited, 6 may be our magic number :)

He thinks 6 is our magic number..... LOL What he doesn't realize is that I still get to have two more to catch up to his four. HE HE HE HE... No, honestly now it is an addiction, love the two I have, and at this time do not think we will be getting another d/t space. It could be done but that would mean buying new shelving, etc. etc. etc. It will be done someday, and eventually I think I would like to breed at least once, but will wait for that until the kids are gone and we can have their rooms. LOL
