Wanting some opinions on second snake

Rosys and carpets are great snakes. The only special consideration with rosys is that they are more sensitive to humidity than other snakes; they're extremely well adapted to surviving in a dry, desert environment, so you have to keep their humidity low.

I don't know if handling has any bearing on your decision. There's definitely a different feel when holding a carpet vs a rosy. Tame rosy boas are so slow and easy to handle it's ridiculous. You can easily watch a movie with your rosy. Carpets are very strong and like to climb and wrap around things.

The enclosure is another consideration. A carpet python will get much larger, need a bigger enclosure and will prefer having some height in the enclosure to accommodate climbing apparatus. Rosy boas will be fine in a much smaller enclosure but need ventilation to keep the humidity low.

Thank you! What about activity in their Viv? How active are each? I like to handle really active animals also.

So no to the Hognose and I know I am not ready for a Green Tree Python. I still can't find much info on the Rhino Rat. I am defiantly looking at the Carpet Python, Rosy Boa, and Sand Boa. I will be going to a reptile show very soon, hopefully I will see some there. And I am defiantly going to research on the three defiant species.

Has anyone heard of a Irian Jaya Jaguar Carpet Python?

My vote goes with the Carpet Python. Like Chris said, the IJ's are the smallest & the Coastals are generally the largest. I have mostly IJ's, one Jungle & have a future Coastal & another Jungle baby to add, down the road.
The personality on the Carpets is awesome! If I had to pick just one snake species, it would be the Carpets. Don't get me wrong, I love my Corns, no question, but if you get a chance to interact with Carpets, you will see what I mean.
Here's my Carpet Python thread...not all of the snakes pictured are mine, I have included pics of the parents on some of them.

I am really liking the Carpet Pythons. I have read they are nippy as babies. That is fine. I have also read that they really Semi-Arboreal is this true?
They can be bitey as babies. In fact, most Carpet owners say that they would be worried about the baby carpet if it *wasn't* bitey/feisty.
Their bites do hurt a little, but not terribly. They calm down at about 1-1.5 yrs old, generally. I have a couple that seem downright evil (babies) & some that are not as bad.
Check out http://www.moreliapythons.com/forums/ as an excellent place to lean about Carpets, as well as network with other morelia owners.
As far as cages, I know a lot of people keep them in racks when their smaller & move them into cages when full grown. The cages I will be getting for my Carpets when they're full grown, are from Constrictors NW http://constrictorsnw.com/cagessupply/prostacks.html
Ed is a great guy, & I would recommend him to anyone for snakes or cages.

Holding a carpet is like hold a very large corn, in that they (at least ours lol) loves to move...He's a big handful of constant motion, loves to crawl over everything and everyone...The one bite, as most bites are, was my fault...

Heather we got him at a show in Havre de Grace MD from a jobber who had bought out a collection in Ohio...Supposedly produced by Don Hamper...

He's stunning Chris! I will be getting my first Coastal Carpet in a couple months, when it's warm enough to ship. She's a '10 baby, & while she's technically not a higher end morph, (she's a Jag sib) I *love* her pattern, & I have had my eye on her for months.
(I'll attatch a pic of her) :)

Heather, Thank you so much! I have been looking for a forum on them. Silly me didn't use the scientific name. lol

Hopefully the show I am going to will have some babies or there is a breeder nearby me. My mother wants me to hold the Carpet Python I am getting. I think I am really going with Carpet Pythons.

You're welcome :)
I can recommend some great Carpet breeders, if you are interested. I don't know who all will be at the show you are going to.
(Which show is it? I can ask some of the breeders I know if they're going, & let you know).

Sent you a message.

My rosy and my carpet are equally active. They are both out of their hides more than 50% of the time and they both interact with people who approach their vivs. It sounds like you're going with a carpet, so if your new snake is anything like my Charlie, prepare to be stared at a lot by a snake up on a branch! She makes an awesome display snake, I have to say.

Yep. Decided to go with the Carpets. Unless I find a Rosy Boa that is the "one" snake I have to have. I love the Jungles and the Irian Jayas, hopefully I can get one of the two.
