Hi. New here. Need some input. In the past I only kept BCI boa constrictors. I now own a corn snake. It's a male adult which the breeder says was born in 2021 I obtained him in June this year. He's 32 in long and at his thickest point He's about as thick as my middle finger about 2 in around. When I weighed him he was 90 g. He's now presently about 135 g His traits are:
Amelanistic
Pos Het Anerythristic
Het Cinder
Het Hypo
Het Stripe
Pos Het Sunrise
He's on a hopper mouse F/T once a week. He's eating pooping and shedding in one piece. I give him a 12-hour day night cycle he comes out at night wanders around a bit sometimes he perches up on a branch looks like he's waiting for food to walk by. I have a hide on the hot side and one on the cool side. Next to the hot side hide is a flat rock. There's a water dish big enough for him to get into in the middle of the enclosure. It's change daily but I never see him use it. The bedding is forest floor cypress and there's a multitude of synthetic leaves. The hot side is between 85 and 88 and the cool side is between 75 and 78. Humidity around 45% I increase it to 65 to 70 when he goes into shed. When I first got him he would burrow under the cypress mulch but now he prefers the hide on the cool side. He never goes in the warm side hide unless he sees me watching him and and he's near it and then it's only until he can't see me anymore does he then go back to the cool side. He poops in one spot in the front corner on the warm side away from the warm side hide. So my question is he doesn't seem to ever thermal regulate by going and staying in the warm side hide or on the flat rock. And I'm wondering why. The heat is from overhead ceramic element. I do not handle him when he's in shed or for 3 days after he's eaten. on other days I try to handle him for 10 minutes a day but he still does not want to stay still when I do. I look forward to hearing any in all comments. Thanks much.
