What can go in a 10 gallon tank? :)

Omg Those rubber boas are so danged UGLY their cute...I want one lol. Maybe I'll look into getting one myself.

Aren't they fantastic! I can't help but giggle each time I look at them. I'm definatly going to have to make it a point to hold some of those guys and see how they are in person.

I deffinatly want one. Its like how I want a pug. just for its butt ugly mug lol. My b/f discription about a rubber boa "you know those damn ugly boas that look like a gigatic worm" LOL love it :roflmao:

BTW-

Every single time I post about a random snake...you HAVE ONE...or two...or three. Just HOW MANY snakes do you actually own??? :)
hahaha. Yeah, I told you I was trying to narrow down my collection a little bit. I currently have 68 snakes. That number can change weekly though. As far as the size of the Thayeri, my female is probably just shy of 3 feet or so, but I could be wrong. I'll measure her later when I'm at home. The male is a bit bigger than her. I keep both of them in tubs (in a rack) that has about the same floor space as a 10 gal. and they are quite comfy. For aesthetic purposes, you could go bigger, but they do well in the smaller enclosure. However, no promises that the babies won't grow up to be a bit bigger than the parents. But at that point you will be able to justify getting a bigger enclosure and getting another snake for the 10 gal. again. :grin01: Have you seen this page? http://www.kingsnake.com/king/mexicana/thayeri.html
It says that they get 24-38 in.
BTW, last years babies from this pair were very nice looking. Unfortunately, I don't have any pics because my uncle hatched them.

See, I really need to behave with this one. I have to get something that I know I won't have to upgrade to a larger tank...because asthetically, there really isn't anywhere for a larger tank to go! For me to add a critter to the little spot on my desk where this tank allready is...no big deal...but I'll certainly be stepping on some toes if I start trying to take up space that belongs to supplies, decor, etc.

So, basically, whatever I can fit on my desk, I can get away with. I shoulda bought a desk with more shelves...hahahahaha.

Hmmmmmmmmm....

Man, I'm dying to ask you what kinds of snakes you have, but you probably don't feel like going through the 68 snakes long list! Hahahahaha. You should let me come over and squish them sometime. *squish* *squish* :p

Baba-Lou i dont think they mean rubber boas can survive in the artic without a heat pad ;) :sidestep:

i think there talking to those of us who dont live in igloos lol :p :grin01:

I was under the impression that a hognose would get to large for a 10 gallon. A shop by me has a female western and she is HUGE! Looks like a rattlesnake! heh. I would LOOOOVE a hoggie though...soooo cute!

You were probably seeing an Eastern Hognose. I think California law would prevent you from having a Western. Don't quote me on that! ;)

No, it was definatly a western...but it was a big, chunky ol female! California is TRYING to pass a law banning the owning of native species...but that law has NOT succeeded yet. Either way, saw the pics of what one could do if it should decide to chew on my hand (or my boyfriend's hand who is extremely sensitive to things like bee stings and spider bites) and thought better of it. Oh well, not cute little pug snake for me. :(

:-offtopic Hey it may be cold here most of the time. But the homes I've lived in are rather warm. I know your trying to be joking here. But this igloo thing has gone far enough. The apartment I live in is to warm for me as it is. I actually have to open the windows to take it down a few degrees to keep it nice in my place.

is that last pic a green bottle blue? it's gorgeous i think i need one

yep, chromatopelma cyaneopubescens. if you do get one, get it small...they make a pretty amazing color transformation from sling to subadult.

as for the 10 gallon tank...and you mentioned being able to hold the tarantula...i'd say:
1. grammostola aureostriata (large, nice colors, generally one of the most docile ts there are) http://www.spidy.goliathus.com/foto/0506_G_aureo.jpg

or

2. avicularia versicolor (amazing colors, also fairly calm..but a little skittish) adult: http://www.papiliophoto.com/images/Avicularia versicolor, South America.jpg sling: http://www.bighairyspiders.com/pix/versicolor1.jpg

theres others but those are the best i can think of for the description without writing too much haha. but remember, each has its own temperment and may not realize it is supposed to be a calm species heh. post some pics of whatever you decide on!

quick note the law itself is not banning owning native snakes it is against selling them.

other than that, Male KSBs would work, rubber boas, come on they are cute.... i like them lol, :crazy02:

Jenn... your thread... it's come back FROM THE DEAD!!!

Zoooombie thread! RUUUUN! BWAH HA HA HA HA.

The funny thing is, now that I got Pickle Bunny, it kinda makes my 10 gallon question obsolete...for the time being...hahahaaha. (allthough I'll still hang on to the tank when Worm outgrows it...cause...ya never know if I'll get to have a keeper next year when I breed Pumpkin!)
