Restricted and expensive sources of energy (fossil fuels, nuclear, etc.). Sounds weird, but if we could make better use of the sunshine "soup" raining down on our heads, existing economic models that favor the limited number of "haves" can be removed. This is also, of course, why abundant cheap energy may never be realized...

Organized religion, the concept of modern economy, remove one or both of the equation and it's a great step in the right direction I think.

Those are resources, essentially, for greedy people.
The ultimate problem is human greed. It has always been and always will be. Everything else is just a tool.

Amen to that!

As a child growing up in the 60s, expectations from parents and society were so much higher. We actually had to sell our Girl Scout cookies door-to-door, not have our parents sell them to their co-workers at the office! I understand that the world is not as safe as it used to be, but kids don't seem to have to earn anything anymore.

The same for our sports teams, 4-H competitions, etc. The winners got trophies and ribbons. The losers got nothing, except for the incentive to work harder.

This fantasy idea that everyone is a "winner" is such BS. Unfortunately, the real world is going to show these kids that it doesn't work that way, and they are ill-equipped to handle it.
